Message from the Principal

As many of you know, the Superintendent’s Advisory Council shared their ideas regarding the future of Redwood City School District last Tuesday night. While Roosevelt is slated to return next year, there were a number of proposals that suggested possible changes to our school. There are two Community Engagement Forums coming up this week: at MIT on Monday and at Taft on Thursday. Both forums are from 6-8pm. If you are interested in either speaking or listening to what the community is saying, you are encouraged to attend.

The Jog-a-thon is fast approaching, and we really want to meet our target of $45,000. So far, kindergarten-5th grades have been doing all the heavy lifting and have raised 98% of the donations. In fact, we already have two classes who have made their target—congratulations Mrs. T and Mrs. Torres! Please set up a pledgestar account, if you haven’t already, and encourage your children to work on some fundraising.

Halloween is upon us with Spooktacular Bingo this Friday and with our costume parade on the 31st starting at 8:15am. If your child wishes to participate, please have them come to school in costume, but ensure they bring regular clothes to change into afterwards. The parade will end around 9:15am, and while students will be allowed to wear free dress that day, they will need to remove their costumes. For students who do not celebrate Halloween, they can be in the library during this time.

Parent-teacher conferences will be here before you know it. It is an important time to meet with your child’s teacher and hear about how they are progressing. The two official conference days are Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20. You should be seeing conference slips come home soon. Please make sure you return them as soon as possible in order to get your preferred times.

I’m sorry to say that some parents have been parking illegally in disabled parking spaces, especially in the upper parking lot. While I realize that there are not enough parking spots there for everyone, we have a number of parents who need to use the disabled parking spaces. Please do not park there, or you may be ticketed. The RCPD will be patrolling and will be issuing tickets to those who are parked in the disabled spaces without a current placard.

Jog-a-thon Classroom Leader Board

Congrats to our first two classrooms to hit their goals! Way to go Mrs Tsuchiyama’s Grade 1 class and Mrs Torres Kinder class! But don’t stop now – many more classrooms are almost there and the top overall class title is still up for grabs!

Reminder: if you have cash or checks to turn in, don’t wait until the very end.  You can always download another pledge sheet off the jog-a-thon webpage or pick one up from the office.  When you turn money into the office it will be collected by a member of the PTA and uploaded to Pledgestar website (make sure to put student’s name with money!)
