Message from the Principal
I am sending this out prior to today’s big game, so as of right now, I am neither celebrating nor mourning. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the 49ers come out on top, but it is sure to be an exciting game.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Parent Education Series event, The Self-Driven Child. It was really engaging and informative. Following up from the event, I was provided with some helpful information sheets to share. Feel free to download them here: http://bit.ly/selfdrivenchild2020. Also, if you would like to be informed of future events either through RCSD, Sequoia Union High School District or Las Lomitas Elementary School District, you may sign up here. You are welcome to attend any of the events, in addition to the ones hosted in Redwood City.
A reminder that this week on Thursday, February 6, we have a SUPER minimum day for all students, with school dismissing at 11:45am. The office will close early too, as all staff will be going to trainings that afternoon. Please make sure your child is picked up on time.
We have tryouts coming up for the second annual Variety Show on February 10. Last year’s event was a huge success, and I expect this year’s to be even more amazing. Students may perform on their own or in a group, but there is only one performance per child. Performances may be up to three minutes long. Permission slips are due Friday, February 7. Extra permission slips are available in the office. If in a group act, permission slips are required from each performer. There are a few key dates you will need to put on your calendar if your child wishes to participate:
- Permission Slips Due on Friday, February 7
- Tryouts on Monday, February 10, 2-4:30pm
- Mandatory Rehearsal on Monday, February 24, 2-4:30pm
- Dress Rehearsal on Tuesday, March 10, 1-3:30pm
- Variety Show on Friday, March 13, 5:30pm
While the Variety Show will be at the McKinley Auditorium, all tryouts and rehearsals will be in the Roosevelt cafeteria. All the tryouts and rehearsals are mandatory. Students who cannot attend (unless due to illness) will not participate in the show. If your child is using music, they must come to the tryouts with the music on a USB drive.
I hope to see lots of you at Lego Night this Friday night from 6-8pm in the cafeteria. This is always such a fun night, where adults and children alike can bring out their inner architect and builder.
I hope many of you can join me for a Valentines’ coffee on February 14. I look forward to providing an update on what’s happening at Roosevelt and hear from many of you. As always, this will be a dual-language event in Spanish and English.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
– Principal Tina Mercer
