Donation letters…
The PTA has donation letters that you can use to ask for donations for a general PTA contribution, the 5th grade trip to Outdoor Education or the 6th grade trip to Yosemite. If you would like a hard copy of any of the letters, please let us know and we’ll be happy to give you as many copies as you need. You can also download the letters here and print them out yourself: PTA_Donation, PTA_OE_Donation, PTA_Yosemite_Donation.

6th Grade Families…
Please send in your payment for the April Yosemite trip. To reserve a spot for your child, $100 is due by January 13, $200 by January 31 and the full amount of $250 must be turned in by February 26. Checks may be made out to Roosevelt PTA. You may also pay via credit card in the school office or with the Donate button on the parent blog.

5th Grade Families…
Please send in your payments for Outdoor Education in May. As with other field trips and events throughout the year, the PTA can’t fund the entire trip for the 5th grade so we need parent contributions  to make this trip happen.

After School Sports…
Registration is now open for the following programs:
Roosevelt Soccer for 4th & 5th Graders (Boys & Girls) – Registration deadline February 6 / Cost: $65 For more information, stop by the office for a blue registration form or go to www.teamsideline.com/redwoodcity and look for Registration Foms on the left
Youth Indoor Soccer League for boys and girls ages 8 -14 – Registration deadline February 7 / Cost: $50 For more information go to www.teamsideline.com/redwoodcity under Winter Sports

After School Enrichment…
Look for flyers over the next week for winter sessions of Danny G’s Dance Classes, and Chess! (The PTA is also working to offer ceramics and art classes as well.) These opportunities are only possible with the help of your donations so please consider donating $100 to the PTA to help us bring these activities to our children.

Community Budget Meeting…
Last spring Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a newformula for funding public schools, the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).   Under the LCFF school districts must show how their budget aligns with their academic plan.  The Redwood City School District is seeking input from parents and staff as we begin to develop the 2014 Budget. You are invited to participate in one of two sessions on Thursday, January 23 (see above for times and location) to help the District prioritize spending in key areas: student achievement, student engagement, school climate, basic services and Common Core State Standards.   These meetings are a continuation of the LCFF Community Engagement effort that began with Community Information Meetings held during November, December and early January. In addition, parents and staff will have the opportunity to provide input in a confidential survey to be conducted later in January.

BoxTops Contest…
Another BoxTops contest collection sheet went home in this week’s Thursday folder! The classroom with the most BoxTops turned in will win a surprise! So start clipping those BoxTops! The PTA just received a check for $422.98 for the last submission of BoxTops, so clipping them and turning them in does help.

Online Directory…
The 2013/2014 school directory is going green! We’ve switched to an online directory to save money on printing costs and to save paper. You will be able to access the directory from your home computer, smart phone or tablet starting in December. You can also update your family information any time during the year. The system will “graduate” your child every year, so you only have to enter the information just once. Each year you just need to verify that your information is correct.

Fundraise While You Shop…
Don’t forget to scan this week’s receipts for Shoparoo, check those Safeway receipts to make sure that Roosevelt is getting your escrip credits and look for Box Tops on anything you bought this week! (A note about Shoparoo: there are other Roosevelt schools in the area – one in Burlingame and one in San Leandro. Please make sure that your points are going to the correct Roosevelt School.)
