Donation letters…
The PTA has donation letters that you can use to ask for donations for a general PTA contribution, the 5th grade trip to Outdoor Education or the 6th grade trip to Yosemite. If you would like a hard copy of any of the letters, please let us know and we’ll be happy to give you as many copies as you need. You can also download the letters here and print them out yourself: PTA_Donation, PTA_OE_Donation, PTA_Yosemite_Donation.

6th Grade Families…
Please send in your payment for the April Yosemite trip. To reserve a spot for your child, $100 is due by January 13, $200 by January 31 and the full amount of $250 must be turned in by February 26. Checks may be made out to Roosevelt PTA. You may also pay via credit card in the school office or with the Donate button on the parent blog.

5th Grade Families…
Please send in your payments for Outdoor Education in May. As with other field trips and events throughout the year, the PTA can’t fund the entire trip for the 5th grade so we need parent contributions  to make this trip happen.

8th Grade Families…
If you want your child to attend a high school that is NOT their assigned home school, you have to fill out an Open Enrollment Transfer Application. Transfer Requests are due by Friday, January 17, 2014, at 4:00 p.m.  Go to http://www.seq.org/?id=137 for more information.

After School Enrichment…
The PTA is currently working to bring more after school enrichment classes to Roosevelt. Look for flyers over the next two weeks for winter sessions of Danny G’s Dance Classes, Spanish for Beginners — English speakers in grades 5 – 8 (a class will be offered for Spanish speakers in the spring) and Chess! (The PTA is also hoping to offer ceramics and art classes as well.) These opportunities are only possible with the help of your donations so please consider donating $100 to the PTA to help us bring these activities to our children.

BoxTops Contest…
Another BoxTops contest collection sheet went home in this week’s Thursday folder! The classroom with the most BoxTops turned in will win a surprise! So start clipping those BoxTops!

MEND – Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it!…
The “MEND 7-13″ program is cutting-edge, evidence based healthy lifestyle program for overweight children ages 7-13 and their parents. Rather than focusing on weight loss, the program uses a practical, interactive learning approach to teach children and parents weight management skills. This includes inspiring families to adopt a healthier lifestyle and enjoy preparing and eating healthy foods as well as reading food labels and healthy shopping on a budget.  There are also simple but exciting sessions, which focus on making exercise fun again – especially for children who are not fans of traditional school physical education.

10 Week FREE Program Begins: January 14, 2014 — Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 pm and Saturdays, 11:30am – 1:30pm OR January 15, 2014 — Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30pm and Saturdays, 11:30am – 1:30pm both sessions at Sequoia YMCA, 1445 Hudson Avenue, Redwood City 94061

For more information, contact Joseph Jimenez at 650.481.1214
Advance registration required.

Online Directory…
The 2013/2014 school directory is going green! We’ve switched to an online directory to save money on printing costs and to save paper. You will be able to access the directory from your home computer, smart phone or tablet starting in December. You can also update your family information any time during the year. The system will “graduate” your child every year, so you only have to enter the information just once. Each year you just need to verify that your information is correct.
