CST Testing…
This is the last few days of CST Testing! Please make sure your child is on time each day. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast each day as well. They’ll be testing in the morning, so a good breakfast will help them concentrate. Talk about the importance of doing their best and remind them to take their time and check their work. Make sure they go to bed on time – 8:30pm at the latest! Students do better when they are fully rested. Have your child relax each day after school. Finally, give them encouragement to do their best!

Rummage Sale…
Our Rummage Sale will also be a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5, 2012! Our PTA president, Aurora Gallardo needs help sorting and pricing the donated items that have been stored in the PTA room and selling booth space. Parents are also needed to help cook food for the festivities. 10×10 foot stalls are also available to rent by anyone that wants to sell at the rummage sale so ask family and friends if they want to rent a stall.

For more information, please contact Aurora at aurora.gallardo@star-vista.org

Roosevelt Expansion Update…
At last Wednesday’s School Board Meeting, the school board listened to more discussion about Roosevelt expanding to a K-8 as well as other programs throughout the district that are asking to expand (Taft to K-8, Henry Ford adding 6th grade, etc.) Some parents that filled out cards to speak were unable to do so because they had to get their children home for an early bedtime for CST testing. If you would like to send your comments to the school board, you may do so via email or mail to the District office. For the list of current board members, go to http://www.rcsd.k12.ca.us/Page/17. If you send a letter to one Trustee, they will make sure it is forwarded on to the others. The next school board meeting is on May 9, but it’s unclear whether a vote for Roosevelt’s expansion request will scheduled for that meeting or not. If you have any questions about what is happening, I’d be happy to answer them. Contact trishreillytaylor@gmail.com

Box Tops…
We have one more Box Tops Contest running this year –and there’s more prizes!

Bring in 5 Box Tops, and win a chance to choose a prize! Box Tops volunteers will collect Box Tops at lunch time in front of the office on Friday, May 4th and 12th. For every 5 Box Tops, your child will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including gift cards, movie tickets, books, and toys.

Thank you to the families that have donated gift cards and new DVDs – we can still use more, so if you could donate movie tickets, small gift cards Lego sets, cool books in English and Spanish, small board games –we would really appreciate it. There is a Prize Donation box in the office on top of the mail boxes. Contact Megan Goulden at megan.goulden@gmail.com with any questions.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon…
Show your appreciation for the staff of Roosevelt school! The PTA is hosting a potluck lunch for the Roosevelt staff on Wednesday, May 9 at 11:00am in the Faculty Lounge (Room 14). Please bring one of your favorite dishes to share with our teachers. You can drop off your dish the morning of the luncheon or just before the luncheon at 11:00am. If you are contributing food, and need your dishes returned, please label everything with your name and your child’s name and room number.

Escrip / Safeway Club Card…
At last week’s PTA meeting, it was brought up that some families are still unaware of Escrip for fundraising. If you haven’t already, sign up now! This fundraiser couldn’t be easier! Participating businesses contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards (i.e. Safeway Club Card), credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases to Roosevelt.

Register your Safeway Club Card, debit and credit cards on the eScrip website. Participating merchants will make contributions to Roosevelt based on purchases made by you just by using the cards you have registered. To register your cards and see a list of participating stores, go to the eScrip website at www.escrip.com

On the Parent Blog…
I will be posting the list of winners from the Multiplication Marathon. I also have pictures from Room 10’s visit from artist Elizabeth Gomez. The teachers have been sending me their PBL Newsletters and Monthly Newsletters and I’ll post them to their pages as soon as I can.

Parcel Tax Phone Banking…
The parcel tax committee has assigned Roosevelt to 2 phone bank nights for Measure W (the parcel tax). We need 20 people per night and they are fun and easy. All we do is call people to understand whether they are supporters or not. No convincing required!

Our second scheduled Phone Bank night is Thursday, May 10 from 5:30-8:30pm. Send an email to Dave Goulden at dave.goulden@gmail.com or go to www.signupgenius.com/go/volunteer1271 to sign-up directly on the website. To read the latest on Measure W go to Redwood City Community for Better Schools.

RCEF Benefit…
