Message from the Principal

We have a lot going on in the next few weeks, and I hope to see many of you on Tuesday evening at the PTA meeting with the kindergarten classes presenting at the start. Thank you to all the parents who completed the Climate survey and the LCAP Priority survey. Your feedback is valuable and will help us make positive changes at Roosevelt and district-wide.

This Thursday, we will have having our first character education assemblies. Our focus character trait for February has been respect. For March, we are focusing on caring. We have three assemblies on Thursday, February 28. If your child is receiving an award, your child’s teacher will let you know. We will be presenting awards based on respect and good citizenship. The middle school assembly at 8am and the 3rd-5th grade assembly at 8:30am will take place in the cafeteria. The TK-2nd grade assembly at 9am will take place at the upper campus.

Parent teacher conferences are just around the corner from March 11-15. If they haven’t done so already, you should be hearing from your children’s teachers about setting up conference times if needed. If you do not hear from your child’s teacher and would like to have a parent teacher conference, please contact them to set one up. The entire week of March 11-15 will be minimum days. It is also the week of our Book Fair. Please come by the library and check it out and maybe buy a book or two for your child to read over spring break (which will be here before you know it).

Roosevelt is having a Variety Show this year!Image result for theater graphicWe are very excited to begin our foray into the performing arts. If your child enjoys singing, dancing, playing an instrument, acting, telling jokes, or has another talent they would like to share with the school, we would love to see them at the Variety Show tryouts. Tryouts will take place on Monday, March 18 right after school in the cafeteria beginning at 2pm. Flyers will be sent home tomorrow and again on Thursday. You will need to complete a permission slip which needs to be returned to the office by Friday, March 15. The Variety Show will be held on Friday, April 12 at the McKinley Institute of Technology auditorium at 6pm. Please see the flyer for all the details and requirements.

There are a few parent education classes for interested parents. The Parent Project is beginning at Hoover School starting on March 7. If you wish to participate, you will need to register in advance. There is also a Vaping/Juul education workshop at Sequoia Union High School District on March 18. If you are interested in either of these opportunities, there are flyers available in the office.

After-school art classes for 3rd and 4th graders begin with Ms. T this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Spots are filling up, so if you are interested and haven’t signed up, you may wish to reach out to her directly. (Email is stsuchiyama@rcsdk8.net.)

Just a quick reminder that if your child is sick with a fever, they need to be fever-free for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
