STORM UPDATE: CLASSES CANCELLED ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11weather_rain

After seriously considering the possible impact of tomorrow’s storm, we have made the decision to cancel all Redwood City School District elementary schools tomorrow, and all after school programs will also be cancelled.  Schools include:

  • Adelante Spanish Immersion School
  • Clifford School
  • Roy Cloud School
  • Fair Oaks School and Fair Oaks Child Development Center
  • Henry Ford School
  • Garfield School and Garfield Child Development Center
  • John Gill School and John Gill Child Development Center
  • Hawes School and Hawes Child Development Center
  • Hoover School and Hoover Child Development Center
  • Kennedy Middle School
  • McKinley Institute of Technology
  • North Star Academy
  • Orion School
  • Roosevelt School and Roosevelt Child Development Center
  • Selby Lane School and Selby Lane Child Development Center
  • Taft School and Taft Child Development Center

We have followed weather reports carefully and it is difficult to predict the impact in our area.  Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff; even if the storm is not as severe here as in other parts of the Bay Area, many of our staff members and parents will be affected as they travel to and from work tomorrow.

Many of our staff members, including teachers, commute considerable distances and we do not want to have inadequate supervision of students in the event that teachers are not able to get to work tomorrow.  We also do not want students to be anxious if parents are delayed trying to get back to Redwood City at the close of the school day.  In addition, power outages are likely at some schools due to high winds and possible flooding.  Without power, it will be nearly impossible to continue operations, including feeding students meals.

We plan to reopen on Friday, December 12, unless conditions force us to close again.  We will provide updates on our website and through our communication system.
