Nominate your favorite teacher – or, parents, nominate your favorite out of all your children’s teachers – and tell us why he or she is so special and deserves to win our Teacher Appreciation Contest, in the comments section of the attached article.

Tuesday, October 9 is the last day that voters can register to vote for the upcoming November election. If you haven’t registered to vote yet, you can do so online at http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm

On the Parent Blog…
There are a lot of pictures from last week’s visit from the SJ Earthquakes and lots of pictures from Saturday and Sunday’s Beautification Weekend! Thanks to Mr. Williams, Joanne Dunbar, Dora Bejarano, and Lisa Jones for pictures this week.

Propositions 30 & 38…
There are two propositions on the November ballot that are trying to raise more money for schools. Proposition 30 is sponsored by Governor Brown. If passed, a new law would temporarily raise the state’s sales tax by a quarter cent, and levy income tax increases on wealthier Californians (earning over $500,000) for seven years. Proposition 38 is sponsored by civil rights attorney Molly Munger. If passed, taxes on earnings would be increased using a sliding scale, for twelve years.

What happens if both pass? Will people have to pay both taxes? No. The proposition with the most votes will be the law, so you would not be double taxed by both measures.

The California Teachers Association supports Proposition 30, The California PTA supports Proposition 38 and the Redwood City School Board supports voting yes on both 30 and 38. For a side by side comparison of both propositions, go to http://cbp.org/pdfs/2012/121004_How%20Do%20Propositions%2030%20and%2038%20Compare.pdf

Volunteer Timesheets…
If you volunteered at one or both Beautiful Days this weekend, don’t forget to fill out a Volunteer Timesheet so that your hours can be counted! Volunteer Timesheets are available in the classrooms and the school office.

Roosevelt’s Facebook Page…
The district created a Facebook page for every school in the district. Please be sure to “Like” the Roosevelt page to get school and district updates in your news feed. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Roosevelt-Elementary-School/214259038634327

Trivia Question Answer…
The correct answer is b. 1,200 slices! 60 large pizzas were brought in to feed Saturday’s volunteers and 40 large pizzas were brought in to feed Sunday’s volunteers. A BIG thank you to everyone that helped out this weekend especially PCC, 2nd Mile, the mural artists, the Devitis family and all of the Roosevelt families that came to help!

Have a great week!
