Drop off and Pick up News…
The City painted the curb on Vera on Friday for the new drop off zone on Vera, but they listed the drop off times as 7:30am to 8:30pm. This is incorrect and will be fixed. The drop off zone times are 7:30am to 8:30am and then 1:00pm to 3:00pm on school days. Students are to be dropped off and picked up in this area. The curb on Euclid will also be painted white and drop zone signs added in the coming weeks. A letter will be going home with your student this week explaining the new drop off procedure.

Book Fair…
The Spring Book Fair will be held during Parent / Teacher Conferences from March 12 – March 16. Kindergarten parents are asked to help with the Book Fair during lunch hours and after school. Please contact your child’s teacher or our librarian Paulette Elliott at pelliott@rcsdk8.net with any questions, or to help out. If there aren’t enough volunteers, Paulette won’t be able to have a spring Book Fair.

Family Author Night…
On Wednesday, March 21, Roosevelt is hosting a Family Author Night. An author is coming to read her book to students and will also have a presentation and raffle. Dinner will be served and 2nd grade families are being asked to help with the food service before the presentation begins. Please contact Bonnie Courtney – Rodriguez at BCourtney-Rodriguez@calcas.com to volunteer. More information about this event will be coming home this week.

See’s Candies Fundraiser…
Your child should have brought home a flyer for the See’s Candy fundraiser in the Thursday folder. This is a fundraiser to raise money for the PTA. You may send your order forms with your child or turn in your order forms to the school office until Wednesday, March 21. Please make any checks payable to “Roosevelt PTA” and please put your child’s room number next to your child’s name on the order form. Thanks for your support!

Box Tops…
It’s time for another Box Tops contest! This one is Boys vs. Girls and the winners will win an extra recess! The contest starts Monday, March 5 and ends on Friday, March 16. Box Tops may be turned in to the Boy or Girl boxes in the school office. Look for Box Tops on products such as Kleenex, Cheerios, Hefty, Ziploc, Huggies, etc.

On the Parent Blog…
I’m posting the class newsletters for March as I receive them and I’ll be posting pictures of the 6th graders reading to students to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday last week. And I’ll be posting pictures of Mrs. Parkhurst’s 3rd graders and their biomes projects as they work on them before their presentation on Friday. And for those that didn’t get the latest issue of the school newspaper, I’ll post that as well.

Monthly Pledges…
Reminder notices for February were sent home last week to those who wanted to make a small monthly donation to the PTA. As with any other donation to the PTA, this money is being spent on P.E. for all grades, art, music, field trips, assemblies, etc. Please make sure to put your child’s name and room number on the envelope so that your account can be credited. As always, the PTA appreciates your support! If you have any questions, please contact Guy Taylor at guytaylor123@yahoo.com

Save the Date…
Our Rummage Sale’s rescheduled date has been confirmed and it will now be combined with a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5, 2012! Our PTA president, Aurora Gallardo needs help sorting and pricing the donated items that have been stored in the PTA room and selling booth space. Parents are also needed to help cook a Mexican meal for the festivities. — Carnes asada, frijoles (beans), arroz (rice), elote (corn) and nachos

If you can help, please contact Aurora at aurora.gallardo@star-vista.org

Grade Configuration Committee News…
Here is your chance to be heard by the district! The district’s Grade Configuration Committee has asked the district to survey families within the district about current grade configurations and programs. The committee will use the responses they get from this survey when they give their recommendation to the board about future programs and grade configurations in the district. On the list of things this committee is looking at is Roosevelt’s request to expand to a K-8 school. We would love to get as many Roosevelt families as possible to fill out the survey, so the computer lab will be made available for parents in the weeks ahead. Look for information about that in your Thursday folder.

The survey only takes a few minutes to complete.
