World’s Finest Chocolate…
Last Friday, October 7 was the last day to turn in any money from the World’s Finest Chocolate fundraiser. If you still have not done so, please turn in your money for all boxes of chocolate that you took home to sell. Please remember that if you signed for a box of chocolate to sell, you are responsible for the entire box. You may not return any unsold chocolate back to the school. For more information, contact the school office.

Rummage Sale Update…
Because the date of our rummage sale was on the same day as the RCEF OctobeRun, it was decided to postpone the Rummage Sale until sometime in the spring. If you had items that you wanted to donate, you still can. Any items donated between now and the rescheduled date can be dropped off in the school office and they will be stored in the PTA room. For more information, contact aurora.gallardo@star-vista.org

Volunteers needed…
At least 12 helpers are needed on October 28 for the Spooktacular Bingo night to set-up, serve food, run the music for Pumpkin/Cake walk, sell Bingo tickets and more! Please contact Kim Schiff at kbschiff@sbcglobal.net if you can help!

Calling all runners…
On October 15, the RCEF is hosting OctobeRun — a Half Marathon Race and a 5K Run/Walk. All proceeds from this event go to the RCEF for school programs in our district. Proceeds from this event go to the RCEF.  For more information, go to www.oktoberun.com

Parking…
Please be aware that the parking spaces on Vera Avenue in front of the school have been reserved for Principal Girardi, office manager Gwen Thomas and Roosevelt staff. Parents visiting the school or dropping off or picking up their children should not park in these spaces. It is also illegal to park in the fire lanes or designated handicapped parking spaces – unless you have a handicapped license plate or placard. If you are parked illegally, your car may be ticketed or towed.

Escrip and Safeway Club Card…
Please make sure that you register your Safeway Club Card with Escrip and designate Roosevelt as your school. When you purchase items at Safeway using your registered Club Card, Roosevelt will automatically receive a contribution from participating products. If you registered your Safeway Club Card last year, please be aware that you have to renew it every year. To renew your registration or learn more, go to www.escrip.com

Looking for a grant writer…
Our PTA is looking for anyone to volunteer as a grant writer to help secure additional fundraising money for our school. You don’t need any special training and you will be given all of the information you need to apply for grants. This is a job that can be done on your own time from home. Please contact our PTA president Aurora Gallardo at aurora.gallardo@star-vista.org if you are interested or want more information.

PTA vs RCEF…
For anyone that is confused about what programs the PTA raises money for and what programs the RCEF raises money for, here’s a very quick breakdown.

The Roosevelt PTA raises money throughout the year for programs at Roosevelt solely for Roosevelt students. Those programs include: paying for Mr Nate for P.E. in grades K-6, Art in Action training and materials, Music for Minors training and materials for K -1, field trips for grades K-6, costs related to our Winterfest program, Family Fun Nights, P.E. equipment, Outdoor Education funding assistance for 5th grade, school assemblies and any other expenses related to programs at Roosevelt.

The Redwood City Education Foundation (RCEF) raises money for programs benefiting ALL of the schools in Redwood City. This includes the Music for Learners program for grades 2-5 and Instrumental music for grades 6-8, a donation to Outdoor Education, SMART grants which are given to schools to bring science, math, technology, arts and literacy into the schools. One SMART grant received by Roosevelt last year paid for the Lawrence Hall of Science to come to our school for a hands-on “Art in Math” assembly for grades K-5. For more information about the RCEF, go to www.rcef.org.

Have a great week!
