Box Tops…
Start clipping your Box Tops fundraising labels! Look for them on different items you buy at the grocery store. I’ve clipped them from Cheerios boxes and Juicy Juice packs, but they’re on a lot of different products. Tell your friends, family and neighbors to give you any that they have too! You just need to clip the actual Box Tops logo (fyi, some of them are really small), and send them to school with your child. The class that has collected the most Box Tops by September 30 will win an ice cream party! To get more information about Box Tops and see a list of products, go to www.boxtops4education.com

On the Parent Blog…
Thanks to Mrs. Torres for sending in pictures of the Kindergarteners working in her classroom. If you’re volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning on field trips or on campus, please take a picture or two and send them to me. I would also be happy to post any work by your child – artwork, stories, poems, etc. And remember, this weekly update as well as any school news are always posted to the parent blog, so please bookmark this page and check it often!

Volunteering…
At Back to School Night, please think about signing up to volunteer in your child’s classroom or talk to one of the PTA members at the Ice Cream Social about volunteering opportunities in the evenings or on weekends. If every parent donated just one hour of their time each month, we could do AMAZING things at Roosevelt! Study after study shows that children whose parents are involved at school earn higher grades, do better on tests, have lower absenteeism, complete more homework, demonstrate better behavior at school, graduate from high school at a higher rate and go on to college. So, a small investment of your time now can have a huge impact over your child’s lifetime!

RCEF fundraiser…
Support the RCEF’s Save Our School Music Campaign. Just shop at the Redwood City Whole Foods Market on Wednesday September 14, 2010. 5% of all sales, all day, go to keep instrumental music education for our kids. Last year’s event raised $5,200!

9 am to 11 am — Stop by the RCEF table by the cash registers and meet some our local education leaders over a free cup of coffee and pastry. Make a contribution to help us reach our $10,000 challenge grant – only $3,000 to go! Free Morning Makeovers for Mom and face painting and balloons for children.

4:30 pm to 6 pm Enjoy musical entertainment by the Sequoia High School band, featuring some of our talented RCSD alumni. Pick up a roasted chicken family meal deal to take home for dinner (until supplies run out). Free face painting and balloons for children.

The Save Our School Music Campaign supports the middle school Instrumental Music Program. The RCEF supports and advances education opportunities for the 9000+ students in the Redwood City School District. Learn more at: www.rcef.org/music

PTA Pledges…
If you turned in a PTA pledge form and chose to donate an amount each month, your reminder will be sent home with your child by the beginning of next week.

Updates to the school uniform policy…
All students must wear khaki or navy pants, skirts or shorts and a navy or white collared shirt (i.e. polo shirt). Students may also wear a school spirit t-shirt or sweatshirt. In the colder months, if children need layers to be worn in the classroom, the Roosevelt sweatshirts are permitted as well as navy or white sweaters. Plain navy or white long sleeve shirts or t-shirts may be worn under their uniform shirts. Socks should be white or navy. For safety reasons, all students must wear tennis shoes.

Have a great week!
