On the Parent Blog…
If anyone would like to write anything for the blog, I’d love to have it. You can either send me a link, write about district news or events, write about your child’s classroom, or anything that you think other parents would be interested in. I would also love anything written by one of the students. Let me know if you’re interested in working on the blog. Blogging is super easy and if you can send an email, you can post a blog entry! Thanks to Joanne Dunbar for sending in pictures of the first graders on the first day of school! If you’re volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning on field trips or on campus, please take a picture or two and send them to me. I would also be happy to post any work by your child – artwork, stories, poems, etc. And remember, any school news is always posted to the parent blog, so please bookmark the page and check it often!

PTA…
If you didn’t turn in a donation or pledge form at MAZE day, you can still turn one in. The PTA still needs your donations to support our P.E. program, Art, Music, Field Trips, and various needed items and supplies for this school year. Checks can be made out to Roosevelt PTA. Please stop by the office or send your pledge forms in an envelope to school with your child. Thank you for supporting the extra curricular programs at Roosevelt!

Donation Matching…
If you want to make a donation to Roosevelt’s PTA (or have already made a donation), make sure to check with your company’s HR department to see if they offer donation matching to 501c non-profit organizations. For a partial list of corporations that offer donation matching programs, take a look at our Fundraising page.

Art in Action for this year…
Volunteers for Art in Action are needed for each grade level this year. You can sign up to be a teacher (docent) or assistant. If you are interested in being a docent, training is provided and you don’t need any previous art experience. Art is such a wonderful addition to our school’s curriculum and, like music instruction, develops areas in the brain that are responsible for creativity, critical thinking skills and language. The time commitment is about 1 hour per month. This is one of those volunteer opportunities that is a low commitment with big rewards! If you are interested, or have questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Karen Berg-Smith at kazberg66@yahoo.com

Updates to the school uniform policy…
All students must wear khaki or navy pants, skirts or shorts and a navy or white collared shirt (i.e. polo shirt). Students may also wear a school spirit t-shirt or sweatshirt. In the colder months, if children need layers to be worn in the classroom, the Roosevelt sweatshirts are permitted as well as navy or white sweaters. Plain navy or white long sleeve shirts or t-shirts may be worn under their uniform shirts. Socks should be white or navy. For safety reasons, all students must wear tennis shoes.

Don’t Forget…
Make sure to put your child’s name on any sweaters, sweatshirts or jackets that they bring to school. The Lost and Found was overflowing with unmarked jackets and sweaters last year that could have been returned if they had a student’s name on the tag.

Have a great week!
