Jog-a-thon Fundraising drive has begun!

The Pack is back!! We kicked off fundraising with a Jog-a-thon  themed assembly featuring our fiesty mascot, the raccoon. Fundraising packets went home last week, so look for them in your child’s backpack if they didn’t share it with you. We already have 51 kids signed up and are almost 10% to our goal. Way to start strong! Sign up this week and get started with your fundraising.

Variety Show – Auditions April 5 after school

The Roosevelt Variety Show returns on May 13 2022 at the MIT Auditorium for a whole new year of talent packed entertainment!  Tryouts will be held the week of April 5 after school in the cafeteria.Do you have a talent to share with the raccoon community? Come show us at the Variety Show! All acts are welcome!

Important Dates:

April 5th 2:30pm: Tryouts –  outside the cafeteria in the outdoor lunch area

May 5 – Rehearsal @Roosevelt

May 12 – Dress rehearsal @ MIT

May 13 – Variety show

Tryout Guidelines

  • Please prepare your act before tryouts and come with your whole group and any needed materials
  • Acts need to be 3 minutes or shorter and G rated
  • Bring any needed music on a phone or audio player that can connect to a USB-C or Apple Thunderbolt attachment

SEPTAR, the Special Education PTA of Redwood City is sponsoring two special presentations by Ellen Cookman, a certified estate planning, trust and probate lawyer and Chris Welton, a Wealth Management Advisor, who both work with families of loved ones with special needs. Spanish interpretation will be available for both meetings.

Students should submit their original design to their teacher and/or the main office no later than noon on Friday, March 18 to be included in the judging. Encourage them to show us their vision for this year’s design, and to start drawing and get involved today!

Save the Date – Variety Show May 13

The Roosevelt Variety Show returns in 2022 for a whole new year of talent packed entertainment!  Do you have a talent to share with the raccoon community? Come show us at the Variety Show! All acts are welcome!

Past variety shows have featured traditional and modern dance, musical performances, spoken word, and even cartoon drawing live! We really want to encourage children to come and share their talents and interests with us.

Tryouts will be held the week of April 5 after school (just confirming location and time).

Girl Scout Cookies – yum!

Girl Scout Cookies!

If you missed the in-person sale last week, you can still get your cookies by ordering online! This easy method will support our Roosevelt troops and you can get your orders hand delivered by the girls in the troop, or get the cookies shipped directly to you from the bakery.
Supply chain issues have impacted inventory so get them in-person while you can, and order for shipping through 3/27. Shipping promotions of $1.10 (3/11-3/12) and free shipping (3/25-3/27) make it easy to stock up before they’re gone.

Jog-a-thon  – t-shirt design contest

This week, students will take home the Jog-a-thon t-shirt design flyer.

Do you have a budding artist in the family? Get ready to show us your best hand-drawn design of “The Pack is Back!”  The winning design will be printed on the Jog-a-Thon event t-shirts! Instructions are included in the flier.  Submit your original design to your teacher and/or the main office no later than 3PM on  Friday, March 18 to be included in the judging.   Show us your vision for The Pack is Back — please encourage your student to start drawing and get involved today!

Reminder – This Friday is “Decades Day”

We have a Spirit Day on Friday, February 18. Students may show their spirit by dressing up from their favorite decade, whether it be flapper clothing from the 1920s or headbands and legwarmers from the 1990s, and everything in between!

Jogathon  – new sponsor update

We have a new sponsor to announce for the Jogathon! Andrews Orthodontics of San Carlos will be our sponsors for “The Pack is Back” Rockin’Jogathon 2022.

The event is on April 21, and we so still need more sponsors. Are you a small business owner, or do you know someone who is a small business owner looking to promote their business to our community? As a $500 sponsor, the Jog-a-thon t-shirts will have the company logo on the back and will be not just worn for the event, but the shirts become school-approved dress code shirts for the future. T-shirts will be worn by over 700 students and volunteers. Additionally, we have a Jog-a-thon website that will recognize our key sponsors. If you are interested in sponsoring the Jog-a-thon or know someone who is, please contact parent volunteer, Jenny Barnes at jenny@roosevelt-pta.com.

We felt the Love – Valentinegrams

The fifth grade did a great job on their Valentinegrams fundraiser. We haven’t had a chance to do the final count, but we were so excited about the response.

We will be sorting and wrapping up the grams for delivery next week. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the fifth grade raising money for Outdoor Education.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is returning to Roosevelt this spring! Girls on the Run is a nonprofit that uses the power of running to build healthy, confident girls. Now more than ever, girls need a safe place to share feelings, build friendships, and get active. Physical activity is woven into each practice, to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health.

Each session consists of a discussion-based lesson, movement-based games, and a running workout.Girls on the Run is open to students in 3rd-5th grades. It starts the week of March 7 on Thursdays (1:45-3pm) and Fridays (2:45-4pm) and culminates in a 5K run on Saturday, May 14 for a total of 16 sessions (excluding school holidays and Spring Break). Students are expected to attend both sessions each week.The team is limited to 18 participants and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage you to enroll quickly as spaces will fill up quickly. For more information, please contact Coach (and 3rd grade teacher) Lydia Pacheco at . Show the love <3 Valentinegram sales this week

This week the fifth graders are selling Valentinegrams to help fund their Outdoor Ed trip this spring. Each gram costs $1 (cash only) and consists of a card and a heart lollipop. Children (or adults!) can purchase the number of cards they wish, fill in the recipient and a note and return them to the volunteers. We will sort them, attach the lollipops and deliver them to all the classrooms on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Sales will take place after school by the Vera Ave gate. 3-8 graders can purchase them at recess and lunch beginning starting Tuesday. Show your friends you care and help the fifth graders raise money for their trip!

Jogathon  fundraiser sponsors wanted

Are you a Roosevelt School parent or friend that owns a local business? We are looking for sponsors for our fourth annual Jog-a-thon taking place on April 21, 2022. After two years forgoing the Jog-a-thon due to the pandemic, we are thrilled to be returning to this fundraising and community-building event. As a $500 sponsor, the Jog-a-thon t-shirts will have your name on the back and will be school-approved uniform shirts worn by 700+ students and volunteers–that is a lot of positive advertising! Additionally, we have a Jog-a-thon website which will recognize our key sponsors.  If you are interested in sponsoring the Jog-a-thon, contact parent volunteer, Jenny Barnes at jenny@roosevelt-pta.com

Winter Enrichment Classes Registration

January after school enrichment activities are now enrolling! See the PTA website for details here. Ballet lessons and piano are now enrolling.  Sign up information is available on the site.

Volunteers Returning to Campus

Volunteers will soon be able to return back on campus! The RCSD Board of Trustees agreed at their most recent board meeting that the school district could welcome back volunteers to school campuses effective November 29. All parents (new and existing ) who wish to volunteer will need to fill out the new application online. Here’s the link to the district website.
