c. $9,800

Make your guess and find out if you’re correct at the bottom!

A Reminder for Drop Off and Pick Up…
The drop off zone times are 7:30am to 8:30am and then 1:00pm to 3:00pm on school days. Students are to be dropped off and picked up in this area. Please pull forward to allow for other cars to pull in behind you. You also must stay in your car in the drop off zone. You may not use this area to park during the drop zone times.

If you are driving from Upton, you need to drive up Madison and make a Left on to Winslow and then a Left on to Vera to use the drop zone. You may not make a U-turn on Vera and if you get caught, it is a very expensive ticket.

Please be courteous and respectful of our school’s crossing guard and of our neighbors and never park in front of driveways.

Yard Duty Positions Available…
The school still needs 3 or 4 people for yard duty this year. The hours are 10:50am – 1:10pm every day.  If you can only work a few days instead of the entire week, you can still apply. The school pays $12 hour. If you are interested, please let Gwen in the office know. You will have to get a TB test and fill out an application with the district and get fingerprinted.

Care Bags Due…
Don’t forget to turn in your child’s Care Bag to his/her teacher. These bags are stored in each classroom in case of an emergency situation. Please make sure each bag has some non-perishable snacks (dried fruit, crackers, juice box, granola bars, fruit roll ups, etc.) You can also include kleenex and a note and/or picture to reassure your child in the event of an emergency. The bags can just be a gallon sized ziploc bag. Each teacher has a supply of water for the class and one granola bar per child plus necessary first aid supplies.

On the Parent Blog…
I would love to put up some back to school pictures, so please let me know if you have any you’d like to share. I’ll try to pop into a few classrooms this week for some pictures to start off the year. If at any time you’re volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning on field trips or helping out on campus, please take a picture or two and send them to me.  I would also be happy to post any work by your child – artwork, stories, poems, etc.  If you or your child would like to write something for the blog let me know. If you can send an email, you can write a blog post – it’s that easy! And remember, any school news is always posted to the parent blog, so please bookmark the page and check it often!

Enrichment Program Donations…
We still need donations from some families for this year’s enrichment programs at Roosevelt. Once the family donations are tabulated, a final decision will be made on funding enrichment programs for the school year.  At a budget meeting over the summer break, the PTA and Principal Girardi made a list of things that needed to be funded for this school year and prioritized them. If the money necessary to fund everything isn’t received, cuts will have to be made. The programs on the list to be funded are the following: art instruction, music, drama, Accelerated Reader, afterschool clubs, field trips, educational assemblies, library books, outdoor education, staff to tutor students that need extra help and so much more!

Roosevelt is asking each family to contribute $100 per child for the school year. You can sign up for a monthly contribution for as little as $10 per month. To fund all of these programs, it’s about 55 cents for each day that your child is in school! Checks can be made out to Roosevelt PTA.  Please stop by the office or send your pledge forms in an envelope to school with your child. Thank you for supporting the extra curricular programs at Roosevelt!

Donation Matching…
If you want to make a donation to Roosevelt (or have already made a donation), make sure to check with your company’s HR department to see if they offer donation matching to 501c non-profit organizations.

After School Sports…
The Redwood City After School Sports Program is a year-round, school-based sports program that is provided by the Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department, in collaboration with the Sheriff’s Activities League, the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula, and supported by the Redwood City Police Activities League. This Thursday, September 6 is the registration deadline for sports offered this fall. The fall sports lineup includes:

Wrestling – grades K – 8
Tennis – grades 1 – 5
Girls Volleyball – grades 4 – 8
Street Hockey – grades 4 -5
Cross Country – grades 5 – 8
Football – grades 6 – 8
Paddling – grades 6 – 8
Youth Golf – ages 8 -15

For more information or applications, stop by Red Morton Community Center or go online to www.teamsideline.com/redwoodcity and click on “Fall Sports”

Save the Date…
Roosevelt is very fortunate to be the recipient of a Beautification Day (actually a weekend) by some wonderful community sponsors including PCC and 2nd Mile. They have a lot of wonderful plans for our campus, but they can only happen with the help of our families. There will be something for every skill level and ability and children are encouraged to help on that day as well. More details will follow as the date approaches, but please save October 6 & 7 on your calendars for this wonderful event/gift.

Spirit Wear…
More spirit wear will be available for purchase at Back to School Night. A list of available items and prices will be sent out before Back to School Night.

Box Tops…
Start collecting those Box Tops! A contest will be coming up soon, so get a head start now. Make sure to ask friends, family and neighbors to save them for you!

Khan Academy…
Back to School means back to homework. If your child is having trouble with homework, Khan Academy is a wonderful online resource to help. These are absolutely free video tutorials on a wide variety of subjects (and the list of subjects is growing every day).  A link to Khan Academy is also on the parent blog links section on the right hand side.

Don’t Forget…
Make sure to put your child’s name on any sweaters, sweatshirts or jackets that they bring to school.  The Lost and Found was overflowing with unmarked jackets and sweaters last year that could have been returned if they had a student’s name on the tag.

Trivia Question Answer…
The correct answer is c – $9,800. Last year, the PTA’s Enrichment Program donated $20 per student for field trips to each class. For some classrooms the $20 per student paid for a bus and for others it may have paid for an entrance fee. Enrollment for the 2012/2013 school year has increased to 535 students, putting this year’s current budgeted amount for field trips at $10,700.

Have a great week!
