As part of Roosevelt’s continuing commitment to provide students with 21st Century Skills, Roosevelt is adding new technology to the classrooms.  Mrs. Parkhurst’s 3rd graders in Room 4 have started using their classroom’s SMART board and interactive clickers.

Mrs. Parkhurst is able to see in real time whether her students are grasping a concept and how many are just not getting it yet. Here is her 3rd grade class taking a quick quiz on Subject vs Predicate. Without the SMART board, Mrs. Parkhurst would have her students take a written quiz and then she wouldn’t know if they were grasping the subject matter until she had corrected the quizzes. With the SMART board, she is able to see what percentage of students are getting the correct answers in a quiz and she is even able to tell exactly which students in class need some extra help. If a large percent of the class is not answering correctly, she can stop the quiz immediately and reteach the lesson right away.

The teachers are able to compose lessons dynamically on these boards, never needing to “erase” what was written, allowing for time savings, consistency of delivery of information and more.

Currently Roosevelt has seven SMART boards in classrooms. The PTA is raising money to buy more SMART boards every year.
