Message from the Principal

Wasn’t Winterest wonderful? Thank you to all the families who attended. It was a beautiful event. It was great to see the children enjoying themselves so much performing on the stage.

Thanks to a very generous parent, we will be bringing the Julia Robinson Math Festival to Roosevelt on Tuesday night. The event starts at 6pm. It should be a fantastic event with lots of math fun. Dinner will be served in the YMCA room, with all the math fun taking place in the cafeteria.

Awards assemblies are this Tuesday for the first trimester. We will contact you if your child is going to receive an award, so hopefully you are able to join us. Award assembly times are as follows:

Tuesday, Dec 11 Award Assemblies

  • 8:05-8:35 Middle School Honor Roll and Principal’s Honor Roll assembly
  • 8:40-9:10 3rd-5th Grade Awards
  • 9:15-9:45 TK-2nd Grade Awards

We had a very successful “meet and greet” at Selby Lane on Wednesday night for the families displaced by the school moving to a K-5 dual immersion program only. There seemed to be a lot of interest in Roosevelt, which is wonderful. This coming week on Wednesday, we are hosting Hawes families who are interested in touring Roosevelt. The tour will take place from 9:30-10:30am. If you are interested in helping out, please contact me as soon as possible (tmercer@rcsdk8.net). We would love to have our Roosevelt families make our potential Hawes families feel as welcome as possible in this difficult time for them.

We also have a full calendar of tours coming up in January-March.  I will need lots of parents to help out as tour guides, so please let me know if you are interested. Even if you can just help on one particular day, that would be very much appreciated. When letting me know, can you also let me know if you speak Spanish, as we do have Spanish-speaking and bilingual parents interested for their children. All tours will be in the morning from 8:30-10am.

Tour dates:

  • January 11, 17, 22, 25, 30
  • February 4, 13, 15, 21
  • March 1, 15, 28

The last Coffee with the Principal for 2018 will be on Wednesday, December 19. I’d like to hear from you about any questions or concerns you have with the changes happening to the district, and I’d love to share some of the wonderful things we have planned for the new year.

A reminder regarding attendance: RCSD does not get paid by the state when your children are not in school (whether it be an excused or unexcused absence). If you are planning a trip that is five days or more, please make sure you fill in the independent study forms. This ensures that we are still funded for those days, and more importantly, your child can keep up to date with their studies.
