Message from the Principal

Congratulations Roosevelt Raccoons for not only reaching our Jog-a-thon fundraising target but exceeding it! Thank you so much to our incredible community for getting behind our school and our students and supporting them in their education and enrichment. The Jog-a-thon, itself, was an amazing success. A huge thank you to Melinda Moye for her tireless leadership in ensuring this extraordinary event went off without a hitch. We had so many wonderful parent volunteers, and I know there are so many of you who helped behind the scenes, even if you couldn’t be there on the day. We could not have asked for a better day, and I could not be prouder to be part of this community. If you don’t already follow the Roosevelt page on Facebook, please do so, and check out the pictures from this PTAwesome event!

Book Fair is this week. Please visit our warm and welcoming librarian Paulette this week! It’s a great time to get something for your children to read over the Thanksgiving break.

Dr. John Baker is presenting his recommendations to the Board of Trustees with regard to making the necessary budget cuts for the 2018-19 school year. The recommendations were made available to the public on Friday, and it appears that the only immediate impact for Roosevelt will be a potential influx of students with a couple of closures/mergers happening to some nearby schools. The possibility of moving to a K-5 and 6-8 model for schools moving forward will be examined over the next year, with no potential changes until the 2019-20 school year.  The community is invited to come to the special board meeting on Wednesday, November 14 at the Fox Theatre at 7pm to hear him present his recommendations. To review the potential changes Dr. Baker is recommending to the board, go to this link: http://redwoodcity.agendaonline.net/public/

Parent-teacher conferences start this week, although the two official conference days are Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20.

Friday, November 16 is a super minimum day. This means that ALL classes are dismissed at 12 o’clock. Please place this on your calendar, so you don’t forget!

Due to the poor air quality from the fires in northern California, our Garden Day was rescheduled from this past Saturday to December 1. I hope to see many of you there. In the meantime, please thank any first responders that you see. This is a very challenging time for many of them, as they are heading both north and south to help with fires.

THAT ROCKIN’ JOG-A-THON ROCKED!

What an awesome show of Roosevelt spirit last week! Congrats on surpassing our Jog-a-thon fundraising School Goal! Stay tuned for more details on our free dress week. We also had 10 classrooms hit their goal to earn pizza or donut parties!

And there’s still time to hit those student goals! November 15 is the last chance to raise the $80 goal for students that want to earn their water bottle and gold collector’s bracelet!

We will be announcing prize winners after the Thanksgiving holiday once the electronic raffles are generated.
