Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon…
It’s that time again when we say a big “Thank You!” to the teachers and staff of Roosevelt School! The luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, May 7 in the Staff Room (Rm 14). The PTA is asking for a donation of $5 per family to help pay for the caterer and for volunteers to help with picking up decorations, set up and clean up. Please contact Joanne Dunbar at dunbear@sbcglobal.net

Outdoor Movie Night!…
Come and join the fun of watching Big Hero 6 under the stars on an outdoor movie screen on Friday, May 15. The food truck will arrive at 6:00pm and the movie will start when the sun goes down (approximately 8:00pm). The movie is FREE and food and snacks will be available for purchase. Please bring camping chairs, blankets and warm clothes. 1st grade families are asked to volunteer for this event. Currently, help is needed with the food truck. Please contact Melanie Centeno at melanieandrodney@yahoo.com

Art Show Help Needed…
The end of the school year is approaching and our Art teacher, Marlene Perez, has planning for the May 21 Art Show on her mind.  She will be needing volunteers before the event to prep, label, and install the art and then more volunteers on May 22 to take it all down. If you can staple, she needs your help! No other skills required! Please contact Marlene at marlenevperez@comcast.net

School Garden…
Looking for a way to get outside on one of  these beautiful sunny days and help our kids get back to nature at the same time? Please join the garden volunteer group.  We really need more volunteers to get the students out into our newly remodeled garden. We need help with our Open Garden lunch sessions and/or tending the garden after school, on weekends or during school breaks.  It will only take a couple of hours a month.  Or, come up with your own volunteer garden ideas and we’ll help you make it happen.  Email Megan Goulden at megan.goulden@gmail.com for more information.

BoxTops Challenge!…
This is the last BoxTops Challenge of the year! This challenge is between Classrooms! Bring in your BoxTops between April 27 and May 22. Make sure you let us know what Room # gets the credit for your entry. The classroom that has collected the most BoxTops will win a prize! Good luck!

SBAC Testing…
The new testing system for Common Core standards has begun. Because the students have to use Chromebooks or iPads for testing, students in grades 3-8 will not be testing at the same time/days as they did for the STAR tests in the past. The SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) results may be released to the school within one month and to parents sometime in late summer. As of March, the state had decided to not release overall school scores to the public. The SBAC score information will look very different than the STAR test results that parents used to receive. For more information on the new test scoring format, go to EdSource – For parents, a new way to view test scores Want to see the test for yourself? Log in to the practice test and see how you do! Do You Have an iPhone?…
You can now add our parent blog as an app button on your iPhone to make accessing the blog even easier! On your phone, go to www.rooseveltparents.com. Then select the “share” button. Select “Add to Homescreen” then select “Add” – that’s it! You should now see a button with a raccoon on your phone’s homescreen. Selecting it will automatically open the parent blog!

Have a great week!
