Classes are held after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Roosevelt lower campus. Flyers went home in the Thursday folder with information about the program including costs. Registration forms are due on February 11. There are only 16 spots available, so sign up right away!

6th grade families need to turn in their payments for this year’s Yosemite week. Payments may be turned in to the school office. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

Teddy Roosevelt Visit…
Principal Girardi is organizing a day for the students to honor and learn about our school’s namesake, former president Theodore Roosevelt. Ms. Girardi has arranged for a very special Teddy Roosevelt performer to come to our campus on February 11. This event is not included in the PTA budget so the PTA is trying to raise the funds for this event and has created a GoFundMe account for donations. We are asking Roosevelt families to share the link of this GoFundMe effort on their own Facebook pages to get donations to this cause. Even if you cannot donate any money to the cause, please SHARE it on your Facebook page. The more exposure we are able to get on social media, the better chance we have of getting outside donations. Right now we’ve collected 30% of our goal! Here’s the link with some more information www.gofundme.com/rooseveltvisit

Princess Ball…
We need your help! The Princess Ball is coming in March. If you are interested in helping plan this event please let us know.  We need your help make this a successful event! (2nd grade families are being asked to help with this event) Questions? Contact Nicole at lynch5600@aol.com

Khan Academy Math Challenge!…
Roosevelt’s 3 – 8th graders have been invited to participate in Khan Academy’s first ever LearnStorm. Until April 30th your child will be able to earn points and unlock prizes by practicing math skills on Khan Academy. The challenge is completely free for everyone – the more students that sign up and practice the better our school will do.

LearnStorm is a also designed to help you learn to learn. Throughout the challenge you will gain points for both achievement and for showing persistence and grit. Each week you will receive a fun optional challenge designed to help build a growth mindset.

Your challenge awaits! It’s time to defend Roosevelt’s school pride on the leaderboards! Sign up at www.khanacademy.org

BoxTops!!…
Start saving up those BoxTops again! Our next challenge is with Henry Ford Elementary. The challenge start date hasn’t been decided yet, but it will be February or March. Let’s see if we can collect more BoxTops than the parents at Henry Ford and make their principal wear Roosevelt spiritwear every Friday for a month! We won our last challenge with Adelante and we brought in just over $600 worth of BoxTops! Let’s see if we can top that with this next challenge!

Jiji Math at home…
Your child can log into his/her Jiji Math account  and complete any assigned homework added by your child’s teacher.

Your student will also have to enter the name of their school. ST Math will accept many variations of our school’s name. For example, Jiji Math will accept lots of different entries including “Roosevelt School”, “Roosevelt Elementary”.  Have your student click on the homework button and enter their 13-character picture password.

Kindergarten students who are still using 8 character passwords will not be able to access ST Math@Home until they learn their full password.

AimHigh…
Applications are available for the AimHigh summer program for incoming and returning 5th and 6th grade students held on June 22 – July 24. Applications are due on April 3. Spaces fill up fast! Questions? Please talk to your child’s teacher or go to www.aimhigh.org for more information.

Do You Have an iPhone?…
You can now add our parent blog as an app button on your iPhone to make accessing the blog even easier! On your phone, go to www.rooseveltparents.com. Then select the “share” button. Select “Add to Homescreen” then select “Add” – that’s it! You should now see a button with a raccoon on your phone’s homescreen. Selecting it will automatically open the parent blog!

On the Parent Blog…
We will be doing an end of the month wrap-up post each month. If you are taking pictures in the classroom while volunteering or if you are chaperoning on a field trip, please send in your pictures! I’ve heard from parents that they love getting a glimpse at what their child’s class is doing, and they like seeing what they can expect at each grade level. So, please keep that in mind through the month of January. Thanks! www.rooseveltparents.com

Have a great week!
