Parents are invited to come and meet with Principal Girardi over a cup of coffee and snacks at 8:00am in Room 1 (the room across the hall from the school office). Hear first hand about district and school news, talk about any issues or concerns you may have or just come for the coffee. This is also a great opportunity to meet other Roosevelt parents! This is a very casual meeting so if you can only drop in for a few minutes, you are still welcome to attend. Spanish translation is available for those that need it. If you have a younger child, you are welcome to bring him/her. Tell a friend!

This offer is only available while supplies last.

On the Parent Blog…
We will be doing an end of the month wrap-up post each month. If you are taking pictures in the classroom while volunteering or if you are chaperoning on a field trip, please send in your pictures! I’ve heard from parents that they love getting a glimpse at what their child’s class is doing, and they like seeing what they can expect at each grade level. So, please keep that in mind through the month of January. Thanks!  www.rooseveltparents.com

Outdoor Education & Yosemite…
5th & 6th grade families need to turn in their payments for this year’s Outdoor Education and Yosemite weeks. Payments may be turned in to the school office. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

Teddy Roosevelt Visit…
Principal Girardi is organizing a day for the students to honor and learn about our school’s namesake, former president Theodore Roosevelt. Ms. Girardi has arranged for a very special Teddy Roosevelt performer to come to our campus on February 11. This event is not included in the PTA budget so the PTA is trying to raise the funds for this event and has created a GoFundMe account for donations. We are asking Roosevelt families to share the link of this GoFundMe effort on their own Facebook pages to get donations to this cause. Even if you cannot donate any money to the cause, please SHARE it on your Facebook page. The more exposure we are able to get on social media, the better chance we have of getting outside donations. Here’s the link with some more information www.gofundme.com/rooseveltvisit

Princess Ball…
We need your help! The Princess Ball is coming in March. If you are interested in helping plan this event please let us know.  We need your help make this a successful event! (2nd grade families are being asked to help with this event) Questions? Contact Nicole at lynch5600@aol.com

Spanish Class…
The next Afterschool Spanish class starts on Wednesday, January 21st.  This class is open to 15 students, 4th -8th graders who are Native Speakers only.  Grammar usage and writing will be emphasized.  The 8-week session will run through early March and the cost is $40 per student.  Maribel Prado will be teaching the class. Look for the flyer coming home this week and sign up early.  Another Beginning Spanish class may be offered in the spring if there is interest.

School Garden…
Looking for a way to help our kids get back to nature at Roosevelt?  Please join the garden volunteer group.  We really need more volunteers to get our kids out into our newly remodeled garden.  We currently offer twice monthly Open Garden lunch sessions, but there are too many kids who want to go to the garden and not enough volunteers.  It will only take a couple of hours a month.  Or, come up with your own volunteer garden ideas and we’ll help you make it happen.  There’s a great opportunity to enter the San Mateo County Fair with our garden – but we could use some extra hands and volunteer energy.  Email Megan Goulden at megan.goulden@gmail.com to sign up.

Jiji Math at home…
Your child can log into his/her Jiji Math account  and complete any assigned homework added by your child’s teacher.

Your student will also have to enter the name of their school. ST Math will accept many variations of our school’s name. For example, Jiji Math will accept lots of different entries including “Roosevelt School”, “Roosevelt Elementary”.  Have your student click on the homework button and enter their 13-character picture password.

Kindergarten students who are still using 8 character passwords will not be able to access ST Math@Home until they learn their full password.

AimHigh…
Applications are available for the AimHigh summer program for 5th and 6th grade students which is being held on June 22 – July 24. Applications are due on April 3. Questions? Please talk to your child’s teacher or go to www.aimhigh.org for more information.

Have a great week!
