New late policy begins! Students not in line with their class at 8:00am must get a late pass from the office. Please get your students to school on time. The morning bell rings at 7:58am.
Friday, January 9
Free Dress Friday! (Even though it isn’t technically the “First Friday”, Ms. Girardi has approved it as a Free Dress Day.)
Final Middle School tour at 9:00am for the 2015/2016 school year (if you know anyone with a 5th-7th grader that is interested in Roosevelt for next year, please have them call the office to join this tour)
Last day for priority registration for Kindergarten for the 2015/2016 school year (Parents with students entering Kindergarten next year need to complete their registration and, if they want to attend a school that is not their assigned neighborhood school, they need to fill out a School of Choice form. Last year 35+ students were on the waiting list for Kindergarten at Roosevelt, so this is a very important deadline!)
Last day for school of choice transfer applications for the February placement lottery for the 2015/2016 school year (this is for anyone with a student in grades K-7 that wants to transfer to another school in the Redwood City School District)

Reading Fair…
This is your last chance to pick up a free Reading Fair Kit! If you and your child are interested in this year’s Reading Fair, starter kits are still available! The starter kits include 1 tri-fold presentation board, 1 set of markers, glue, construction paper and Reading Fair instructions. Please have your student come to the office to pick up an application. All participating students must fill out an application and have it signed by a parent or guardian to receive a starter kit.
Roosevelt will be hosting it’s 2nd Annual Reading Fair! What is a Reading Fair? This is a chance for students to creatively share one of their favorite books to the rest of the school. Students will be able to show their knowledge of the parts of a book and the components of a story. Some classes have been working on their project boards as a class, but ALL students may enter the reading fair. Winning projects will receive prizes! All entries will receive a ribbon and winning entries will receive a Grand Prize ribbon and a Barnes & Noble gift card, a NASA/Kennedy Space Center t-shirt, and more! Only ONE board will be designated as the Reading Fair Champion and will be awarded a trophy!
Reading Fair entries are due on Monday, January 12. Entries may be dropped off from 7:30-8:00am in the Office or 2:00-4:30pm in the Cafeteria. Judging will be held on the morning of January 13. Ribbons and prizes will be given at the Reading Fair Reception on Tuesday, January 13 at 6:00pm in the Cafeteria.

This is a great way to see what you can expect to see happening at Roosevelt as your child advances to each grade level. Snack Shack…
The Snack Shack will be closed this week and will reopen on January 12.
Raccoon Bucks…
In addition to the ice cream truck that has parked next to Schaeberg Library every afternoon at dismissal time, there is now an ice cream cart at the Schaeberg gate. If you are giving your child money for the Snack Shack, they may be using it to buy from one of the two vendors on the street. If you would like to make sure that your child only buys snacks from the Snack Shack, you can purchase Raccoon Bucks that are acceptable currency for any item at the Snack Shack. Raccoon Bucks are available for sale at $1 each in the school office.
Accelerated Reader…
Attention parents of students in grades 2 -8: you can now view you child’s Accelerated Reader progress online! Renaissance Home Connect is a tool that allows parents to log in to a Web site and view a snapshot of their child’s Accelerated Reader progress. That progress includes average percent correct on quizzes, number of points earned, and results on the last quiz. In addition, parents can view all the Accelerated Reader quizzes their child has taken, and can access an online search tool, AR Book Finder, to search for books using various criteria, including author, subject, or reading level. To receive an email when your child has completed an Accelerated Reader Quiz, click the Email Setup link and enter your child’s name and up to six email addresses to receive updates.
To log on, go to https://Hosted122.renlearn.com/278977/HomeConnect That will open up a page requesting your child’s User Name and Password. Letters went home to parents with this information, but if you don’t have it, have your child enter the information. Once you are in the system, you will be able to see the books your child has read and what their progress is towards their point goal. Please note: This site currently doesn’t work on all browsers, but it does work on Safari.
Outdoor Education & Yosemite…
5th & 6th grade families are asked to please turn in their payments for this year’s Outdoor Education and Yosemite weeks. Payments may be turned in to the school office. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.
Jiji Math at home…
Your child can log into his/her Jiji Math account and complete any assigned homework added by your child’s teacher.
Your student will also have to enter the name of their school. ST Math will accept many variations of our school’s name. For example, Jiji Math will accept lots of different entries including “Roosevelt School”, “Roosevelt Elementary”. Have your student click on the homework button and enter their 13-character picture password.
Kindergarten students who are still using 8 character passwords will not be able to access ST Math@Home until they learn their full password.

Escrip: Please don’t forget to also sign up on escrip.com and register your Safeway Club card, credit cards and debit to help earn money for Roosevelt at stores such as Safeway, Old Navy, Home Depot, etc. and remember to always look for the Box Tops logo on anything you buy. Each Box Top earns 10¢ for our school. We’ll be having Box Top contests throughout the year, so clip them and save them! NOTE: You must renew your Safeway Club Card with Escrip each year.
