Roosevelt Garden Team…gardening-clipart-school_garden_supplies_2
The Roosevelt Garden Team is looking for more volunteers to join us 1-2x per month in the school garden.  No experience is required – just a willingness to get your hands dirty and have fun.  We don’t have a lot of meetings, and it’s a great way to get outside and get some exercise while helping our kids and making the school more beautiful.  Please contact Megan Goulden (megan.goulden@gmail.com) to learn more – we look forward to gardening together!

Yard Duty Positions Available…
The school needs 3 or 4 people for yard duty for the 2014/2015 school year. The hours are approximately 11:00am – 1:15pm. For more flexibility, you may sign up for just a few days per week. The school pays $12 hour. If you are interested, please contact Gwen in the school office. You will have to fill out an application with the district and get fingerprinted. Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested.

PTA Secretary Needed…
The PTA is currently looking for someone to take on the Secretary position for the PTA. Duties include attending monthly PTA meetings and occasional executive meetings to take notes and write up the meeting minutes each month to be handed out at the following PTA meeting. For anyone that wants to help out on the PTA, this is a great way to do it! You will get to know other Roosevelt parents and have an active voice/vote in the PTA. If you’re interested, please contact our PTA President, Greg Bryant at wgregbryant@gmail.com

YMCA Job Openings…

Must apply online at www.ymcasv.org/jobs, select After School Leader and specify “Sequoia YMCA” as a preferred location.  Questions? Snack Shack is Back!…
Beginning Monday, September 8, the 5th & 6th grade students and the PTA will once again be opening Roosevelt’s Snack Shack after school.  The students will be responsible for maintaining inventory and balance sheets, reordering items, selling the snacks, etc. The snacks being sold all fall within the dietary guidelines that have to be followed, but still have appeal to students. All items are priced at either $.50 or $1. Parents that gave the full $130 donation to the Enrichment Fund received 5 Raccoon Bucks in the blue shopping tote. Raccoon Bucks can be used to buy items in the snack shack. The snack shack will be open every afternoon from 2:20 to 3:00 in the PTA room (located on the lower playground next to the YMCA room). All profits made from the snack shack will go towards the Outdoor Education Scholarship Fund, Yosemite Institute Scholarship Fund and the Roosevelt Enrichment Fund.

World’s Finest Chocolate…
This is our school’s biggest fundraiser of the year and helps to pay for so many programs offered throughout the year, so we really need parent support! Please note: Once you sign out a box of chocolate, you are responsible for the full cost of the box. Partially sold boxes cannot be returned to the office! If you are having trouble selling your entire box, PLEASE come by the school office – there may be other families that are willing to purchase some of your chocolate to sell and you can be matched up with those families. Selling tips: Do not send your child to sell door to door without an adult. If selling in front of Lucky’s, Safeway, banks, etc. it really helps to make a sign indicating that this is a Roosevelt school fundraiser and your child can wear a school logo shirt to help buyers see that it is for our school. (Check with store managers, some stores will allow you to reserve time in front of the store for selling.) Each candy bar sells for $1 and this year there are a total of 60 bars in each box. Students selling 7 cases of chocolate (10 cases for families of 2 or more) will win a limo ride to In-N-Out for lunch!

Family Dinner Dance!…
Come and join us for our annual Dinner Dance on Friday, September 19 at 5:30pm!  Tickets cost $5 per person and include dinner (lasagne, salad, rolls, dessert and a drink) and dancing to a DJ for the evening.  Tickets need to be purchased in advance. Please fill out the orange form that came home to receive your tickets for the evening. Make sure that you provide the number of tickets needed, and your child’s name and classroom number. Make checks payable to Roosevelt PTA or send cash in a sealed envelope with your child to the school office. Please Note: 5th grade families are being asked to help out with this event.

Roosevelt Enrichment Fund…
If you didn’t turn in a donation or pledge form at MAZE day, you can still turn one in.  The PTA is asking each family to contribute $130 per child for the school year. You can sign up for a monthly contribution for as little as $13 per month. That’s about 73 cents for each day that your child is in school! Donations to the PTA support our art program, music, field trips, drama, outdoor education, library, assemblies, classroom supplies, after school clubs and classes and various needed items and supplies for this school year. Checks can be made out to Roosevelt PTA. The PTA also accepts credit cards. Please stop by the office or send your pledge forms in an envelope to school with your child. Thank you for supporting the extra curricular programs at Roosevelt! Anyone that gives $130 will get a special green tshirt that your child may wear as uniform, a gift bag and a chance to win an iPad Mini! The deadline for the drawing is October 31 so make sure to get your donation in soon!

Box Tops Challenge!…
Are you up for a little competition? Then start saving those BoxTops for our Roosevelt/Adelante Challenge! Principal Girardi has challenged Adelante’s principal to a BoxTops contest. During the month of October, we will be collecting BoxTops. The school that has collected the most BoxTops for the month will be declared the winner and the principal of the losing school will have to wear the other school’s spirit wear for a day. Let’s make sure that Adelante’s principal has to show some Roosevelt Raccoon pride by collecting and turning in those BoxTops in October!
