Donation letters…
The PTA has donation letters that you can use to ask for donations for a general PTA contribution, the 5th grade trip to Outdoor Education or the 6th grade trip to Yosemite. If you would like a hard copy of any of the letters, please let us know and we’ll be happy to give you as many copies as you need. You can also download the letters here and print them out yourself: PTA_Donation, PTA_OE_Donation, PTA_Yosemite_Donation.

6th Grade Families…
If you haven’t done so already, please send in your $50 deposit and/or your next payment for the April Yosemite trip. Checks may be made out to Roosevelt PTA. You may also pay via credit card in the school office or with the Donate button on the parent blog.

5th Grade Families…
Please send in your first deposit for Outdoor Education in May. As with other field trips and events throughout the year, the PTA can’t fund the entire trip for the 5th grade so we need parent contributions  to make this trip happen.

Yearbook Cover Contest…
The Yearbook Club, lead by 5th grade teacher Mr. Williams, is having a cover contest for this year’s yearbook. Students may submit their cover idea to Mr. Williams or their teacher by November 22. Submissions must be done on white paper and must include the Roosevelt mascot (raccoon), the school year (2013/2014) and a colorful original design. The winner will receive a free yearbook!

Get your tickets early before they sell out. See you at the ballet!

On the Parent Blog…
Teachers and parents have been sending in pictures and newsletters for their blog pages, so take a look! This year, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students spend time each afternoon for their “Exploratory Wheel”. Students participate in game & strategy classes, creative writing, photography, leadership and DIY crafts. More pictures will be added soon, but take a look at what the leadership and photography groups have been up to! If you have pictures to share, or classwork or artwork that you would like to share, please let us know and we’ll be happy to post it! www.rooseveltparents.com

Local Control Funding Formula Meeting…
The district will be presenting the budget for this year based on the Local Control Funding Formula that was signed into law by Gov Brown last spring. The superintendent and school board members will be explaining this new formula and what it means for Redwood City schools. A big part of this new funding formula is community input, so parents and community members are asked to attend. Your child/children will receive a free dress pass if you attend this meeting.

Chess instruction…
The Roosevelt PTA is sponsoring a chess instructor to come to Roosevelt on Tuesday, November 12 (tomorrow) and Tuesday, November 19  both during lunch recess for all students in grades 2 – 8. There will be two more sessions booked in January, so look for those dates to be announced. An announcement will be made in the classrooms before lunch recess to let the students know which room they can go to if they would like to play or learn how to play chess. If there is enough interest in the lunch time sessions, the PTA will look into having a chess club available after school.

Online Directory…
The 2013/2014 school directory is going green! We’ve switched to an online directory to save money on printing costs and to save paper. You will be able to access the directory from your home computer, smart phone or tablet starting in December. You can also update your family information any time during the year. The system will “graduate” your child every year, so you only have to enter the information just once. Each year you just need to verify that your information is correct.
