Reminder…
If you haven’t done so already, don’t forget to turn in an emergency kit for your child. It should contain some snacks that will be able to be stored until June – fruit roll ups, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc. (Please include a spoon if one of the food items requires a spoon.) You can also include tissues, a note, a picture, etc. We hope that once again the kits will not be needed, but in case they are, please send in a kit so that child will have one.

Volunteers Needed…
Roosevelt parents will be hosting a Back to School dinner dance for Roosevelt families on Friday, September 20. If you would like to help with any part of this event (planning, creating flyers, hanging flyers, set up, clean up, etc.) please contact the office.

Online Directory…
The 2013/2014 school directory is going green! We’ve switched to an online directory to save money on printing costs and to save paper. You will be able to access the directory from your home computer, smart phone or tablet. You can also update your family information any time during the year. The system will “graduate” your child every year, so you only have to enter the information just once. Each year you just need to verify that your information is correct.

After School Sports…
Registration forms are due on Thursday, September 5 for the fall offerings for after school sports. If there are enough students registered to create a Roosevelt team, practices will be scheduled at Roosevelt. If not, students may have to practice at another school site or Red Morton Community Center. (Some sports are held at off site locations. Please look at each sport’s information sheet.) Registration forms and information available on www.teamsideline.com/redwoodcity

Cross Country Running – grades 5 – 8
Flag Football – grades 6 – 8
Girls Volleyball – grades 4 – 8
Street Hockey – grades 4 – 5
Wrestling – grades K – 8
Tennis – grades 1 -5
Paddling – grades 6 – 8

Registration forms are also available in the school office. Scholarships are also available for qualifying students.  Students participating in the after school sports program representing Roosevelt may wear their team shirt to school with their uniform.

Roosevelt Enrichment Fund…
If you didn’t turn in a donation or pledge form at MAZE day, you can still turn one in.  The PTA is asking each family to contribute $100 per child for the school year. You can sign up for a monthly contribution for as little as $10 per month. That’s about 55 cents for each day that your child is in school! Donations to the PTA pay for our art program, music, field trips, drama, outdoor education,  assemblies, classroom supplies, after school clubs, after school classes and various needed items and supplies for this school year. Checks can be made out to Roosevelt PTA.  Please stop by the office or send your pledge forms in an envelope to school with your child. Thank you for supporting the extra curricular programs at Roosevelt! Anyone that gives $100 will get a gift bag and a chance to win an iPad Mini! The drawing will be held at the November PTA meeting so make sure to get your donation in soon!

Don’t Forget…
Make sure to put your child’s name on any sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, backpacks or lunch boxes that they bring to school.  The Lost and Found was overflowing with unmarked items last year that could have been returned if they had a student’s name on the tag.

OktobeRun…
Once again the Redwood City Education Foundation (rcef) is sponsoring a 1/2 Marathon and two 5K races on October 12 in downtown Redwood City. The second 5K race is a “Kolor Run” – at each 1K point, runners will be blasted with non-toxic colored powder. Participants can run or walk in any event. Our wonderful P.E. teacher Mr. Nate is considering forming a Roosevelt team for the OktobeRun and possibly helping to train students at school. We’ll keep you posted with any updates. www.oktoberun.com

Fundraise While You Shop…
Do you have a smartphone? Take a picture of your weekly shopping receipts for Shoparoo points! If you have an iPhone or Android smartphone, download the free Shoparoo app today. For the entire month of June, Shoparoo is doubling the points for every receipt scanned, so don’t forget to scan those receipts! www.shoparoo.com

Please don’t forget to also sign up on escrip.com and register your Safeway Club card, credit cards and debit to help earn money for Roosevelt at stores such as Safeway, Old Navy, Home Depot, etc. (You must renew your Safeway Club card/escrip membership each year.)

Always look for the Box Tops logo on anything you buy. Each Box Top earns 10¢ for our school. We’ll be having Box Top contests throughout the year, so clip them and save them!
