Snack Donations Needed…
It’s testing time! Some students will begin testing this week and all students in grades 2 – 7 will be taking the CST in the following weeks. The PTA would once again like to put together snacks for the students taking the test to give them a little bit of much needed energy and also show them support and encouragement. The PTA is asking for donations of snack items – pretzels, Cheerios, Chex, goldfish crackers, popcorn, etc. that can be put into baggies for each student for each day of testing. The note that went home in Thursday’s folder gave Friday the 19th as the day to turn in snack donations, but you can still turn them in. (Some snack items were needed this week for those testing early.) Any snack donations may be brought to the office.

Be On Time…
Each morning during CST testing, the students meet in the cafeteria at 8:00am for a pre-CST pep rally. After the rally, students will go to their classrooms to begin testing. Once testing has begun, late students WILL NOT be admitted to their classroom. Late students will have to wait in the school office until their class is done with testing. Late students will have to make up any missed test sections at another time.

The teachers and staff want every student to participate in the morning pep rallies to give them extra encouragement and confidence and they also want students to take the test with their classmates. Study after study shows that students perform better when they feel good about themselves and their abilities. Each morning, the students will chant the “CST Cheer”, go over test taking strategies, answer practice questions as a group and get encouragement from teachers and staff.

So, make sure to give yourself extra time in the morning to get your student to school early or on time for the CST!

PTA Enrichment Fund…
There are still a lot of Enrichment programs that the PTA still has to fund for this year and we need your support. If you still haven’t contributed $100 per child, or filled out a pledge form to make monthly payments, you can still do so. The more money our fund has, we can give the teachers the go ahead to schedule field trips and classroom visitors. The PTA would also like to purchase additional SMART boards for our classrooms. Please include your child’s name and room number so that it can be credited to your family.

Checks should be made out to Roosevelt PTA or you can make a cash donation.  You can also pay via Credit Card or bank transfer using the PayPal Donate button on the parent blog at www.rooseveltparents.com You can also pay by credit card in the school office. Thank you for your generosity!

Autism Awareness…
It’s still Autism Awareness Month through April 30 at Roosevelt! Take a look around campus at all of the wonderful Autism Awareness posters made by all of the students at Roosevelt. Please help support Roosevelt students with Autism by donating $1.00 or more to help purchase supplies, iPad apps, equipment, etc.

Benefit for a Brighter Future…
The Redwood City Education Foundation (RCEF) is hosting it’s annual benefit to raise money for programs offered at all of the schools in the Redwood City School District. Here’s your chance to get dressed up and rub elbows with others in the district that care about funding the arts in our schools. This year’s benefit is being held at Canada College on Friday, May 3 at 5:30pm. More information is available at www.rcef.org.

5th Grade Parents
The PTA is still collecting the requested parent contribution of $160 for Outdoor Education. There’s only 14 days left before their scheduled week at Outdoor Education, so please get your contribution in to the office ASAP, so that we know if they will be able to go this year.  You can bring your money to the office and you can pay by cash, check or credit card. Please Note: The district does NOT give our school any funding for this trip. The students can only go if we have enough money donated to PTA.

Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s…
Save the Date! Roosevelt will be hosting a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s in Redwood City on Saturday, May 18 from 8:00am – 10:00am. Roosevelt teachers are generously donating their time to be servers. This will be a fun family event! Invite friends, family and neighbors. Tickets will cost $5 each. Watch for more information to come home soon.

Earthquakes Soccer Game…
Roosevelt has once again reserved seats at the June 29 SJ Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy soccer game at Stanford Stadium. Banners will be going up soon with information about upcoming ticket sales! All tickets cost $20 each. Tell your friends and family – this game was sold out last year and we were lucky enough to have an entire section!

Fundraise While You Shop…
Make sure to sign up for the Shoparoo app for your iPhone or Android smartphone. Every time you shop at a store that sells grocery items or pet food, take a picture of your receipt and submit it. You can view the school’s leaderboard and see who has the most points. This week, Elizabeth G with 415 points has bumped  2nd grade teacher Ms. Eakin out of the #1 spot. Let’s see if Ms. Eakin can retake the lead for this week! Or will someone else sneak in and take the lead?

Don’t forget to sign up on escrip.com to help earn money for Roosevelt at stores such as Safeway, Old Navy, Home Depot, etc. and always look for the Box Tops logo on anything you buy and save them so you can turn them in when we have a Box Tops contest. Each Box Top earns .10 for our school.
