Parent Volunteer Needed…
The 7th Grade teachers need a volunteer (or volunteers) to come and enter the books from their new class library into the Accelerated Reader system. It’s just easy data entry, but it needs to be done so that the books from the classroom library can be counted towards their AR goals. Please let me know if you’d be willing to help with this and I’ll connect you with our 7th grade Language Arts teacher, Ms. Smith.

Parent Education…
Parents and students are invited to join Peter D. Lee from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) San Francisco Community Outreach division for a free open community conversation on digital/cyber-safety and awareness hosted by Sequoia High School. This event is being held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Carrington Hall at Sequoia High School.

The program promotes cyber citizenship and awareness by helping parents and students learn how to safely and responsibly use the Internet. The FBI’s Safe Online Surfing (SOS) program emphasizes the importance of cyber safety topics such as password security, smart surfing habits, cyber bullying, online predators, social networking sites, and the safeguarding of personal information. Peter Lee will also discuss the appropriate use of cell phones and gaming devices.

Paper Product Supplies Needed…
The 6th graders are still making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless and they need more sandwich bags, paper plates, paper towels and plastic knives, and also some antibacterial kitchen wipes. Any donations are appreciated and can be dropped off in the school office.

PTA Pledges…
Reminders were sent home for all families that wanted to make a monthly contribution to the Roosevelt Enrichment Fund. Please remember to send in your money. Checks should be made out to Roosevelt PTA or you can make a cash donation. You may use the envelope that was sent with the reminder to send back your payment so that it can be credited to your family.

If you still haven’t contributed $100 per child, or filled out a pledge form to make monthly payments, you can still do so. There’s still a lot of Enrichment programs that the PTA has to fund for this year and we need your support. Please also include your child’s name and room number so that it can be credited to your family.

Thank you for your generosity!

Valentines Day Cards…
The 5th graders will be selling Valentines cards in the snack shack for .50 each.

Text Messaging…
The school district has now implemented a system called SMS Blackboard to send text messages and alerts to parents. On Monday, Feb 4 at approximately 6pm, you should receive a text message from the new system. You have the option to unsubscribe by replying STOP RCSDTXT.

On the Parent Blog…
Have you checked out the Links for Kids tab on the Parent Blog yet? There are so many websites out there that make learning fun, so be sure to take advantage of some of them. The Links for Kids page also has links to Jiji Math, Accelerated Reader, Khan Academy and I’ve just added a grammar practice website for 6th graders.

Volunteer Timesheet Is Now Online…
You can now submit your volunteer hours using our new online form on the blog. Just go to www.rooseveltparents.com and select the Volunteering tab. Complete the form and click Submit and you’re done! You can fill out the form each time you’ve completed some of your 40 hours, or wait until you’ve logged several hours and then fill out the form.

Trivia Question Answer…
The correct answer is c. 93. Lets see if we can blow that number out of the water this year! IMG_1675

Learning multiplication tables can be hard until you figure out your child’s own personal style of memorizing. Some people learn by just looking, some by listening, some by writing over and over. Do you know how your child learns best?

You can make or buy flash cards, look for online math games or apps such as Math Bingo and Timez Attack to name just a few. But whichever method you use, it comes down to practice, practice, practice!

Have a great week!
