Two more announcements for this week:

Teacher of the Year Nominee…
Congratulations to 6th grade teacher Sarah Coyle, Nominee for the Teacher of the Year Award by the San Mateo County Board of Education! Ms. Coyle was nominated because she consistently sets high standards for her students, challenges each one to excel and provides the necessary support that they need to reach their goals.

On last year’s CST test, her 6th graders outperformed other 6th grade students in the district as a whole in English Language Arts (ELA). In the Redwood City School District, 54% percent of 6th graders scored proficient or advanced on the CST for ELA, but 64% of Roosevelt’s 6th graders scored proficient or advanced for ELA. That percentage includes the newcomer students that joined her classes late in the year. Her students from last year have taken the first benchmark test and the scores from that test show a high percentage of students are already scoring at or near proficient for 7th grade!

Congratulations again to Ms. Coyle and good luck!

Candy Sales…
The forms went home today for the World’s Finest Chocolate fundraiser. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Roosevelt. Last year, students sold over 40,000 chocolate bars which raised over $20,000 for programs at our school such as art and field trips. This year the goal is to raise $25,000!
