PTA Pledges…
You should have received a letter home about the shortfall of money pledged to the PTA this year that helps pay for so many things for the students at Roosevelt. The PTA board will be meeting in a few weeks to go over the budget for next year and will be making decisions about what programs or expenses will have to be cut from the budget. If you would like to make a donation to the PTA to help save our programs, please send in your donations this week. Checks need to be made to Roosevelt PTA and can be given to your child’s teacher or dropped off at the school office.

SJ Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy Soccer Game Tickets…
If you purchased tickets for the June 30 soccer game, please come to the office to pick them up. Tickets will be available for pick up before and after school. We sold over 400 tickets so we earned a visit from a SJ Earthquakes player in the fall! Congratulations to Valerie Romero for winning the signed Earthquakes shirt. She sold 93 tickets! The PTA decided to purchase a few extra tickets and as of today, there are only 19 left. They will be available for sale in the office ($15 per ticket), but once they’re gone, that’s it. The PTA would like to thank you for your support and we’ll see you at the game!

On the Parent Blog…
4th Graders Maya R. and Caroline T. wrote a blog post about Gold Rush visitor Oh Susannah! to their classroom, so check it out! Also, many, many thanks to Joanne Dunbar for taking so many wonderful pictures of last Thursday’s Field Day! If I receive any pictures from any PBL presentations or field trips this week, I’ll be sure to post them. I’ll also be posting the summer reading lists and class supply lists, so make sure to check for those.

Congratulations to Librarian Paulette Elliott…
Our wonderful librarian, Paulette Elliott has been nominated for the 2012 Judy Moomaugh Award of Excellence For Exemplary Service by a Library Paraprofessional.

This annual award is given in memory of Judy Moomaugh, a librarian and dedicated supporter of libraries, who believed that a library paraprofessional could create and sustain a thriving school library environment that the entire learning community could be proud of. Judy encouraged all library paraprofessionals to read, do book talks, do story time, decorate, promote, and build a relevant and engaging collection. This award is presented to a library paraprofessional who goes above and beyond in the effort to support an outstanding school library program.

Congratulations to Paulette and good luck! To see the full nomination, go to Librarian Paulette Elliott Nominated for Excellence Award

June 13 School Board Meeting…
This is it! The decision will be made at the June 13th school board meeting to determine whether Roosevelt will become a K-8 school or not. This has been a very long journey and for those keeping track, it started back in 2007 with the Roosevelt Revitalization Committee. We all realize that this vote comes after school is out for the summer, but this is an extremely important meeting and your presence is appreciated. If you think Roosevelt should become a K-8, we need you to come and show your support! Because the board is expecting a lot of people to attend, it will be held at McKinley Auditorium (400 Duane Street) at 7:00pm.

Roosevelt Facebook Page…
The district has created Facebook pages for each school in the district. The district wants to use these pages to get important school and district information out to families. The address for the district’s Roosevelt page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Roosevelt-Elementary-School/214259038634327 If you “like” the page, you will automatically get any updates.

Trivia Question Answer…
The correct answer is b – Sandra Northen. She has taught at Roosevelt for 23 years! Thank you Ms. Northen for all of your years at Roosevelt!

Have a great summer!
