Drop off and Pick up News…
So, for some reason, the staff parking spaces were not painted as promised last weekend, but it is supposed to be done soon. The office is still waiting for confirmation from the City on when the drop off zone curbs will be painted. Again, the city’s plan is to paint drop off zones on the curb beside the lower playground on both Vera and Euclid. Letters will be sent home before the curb painting is done.

Book Fair…
The Spring Book Fair will be held during Parent / Teacher Conferences from March 12 – March 16. Kindergarten parents are being asked to help with the Book Fair during lunch hours and after school. Please contact our librarian Paulette Elliott at pelliott@rcsdk8.net with any questions, or to help out.

On the Parent Blog…
I’ve posted pictures from last week’s Happy Birds assembly and from Friday night’s movie night! I’ve also posted Roosevelt’s math score gains since starting Jiji Math. And on the 4th grade page, you can see Ms. Vawter’s class working on Project iRead with their iPods. Thanks to Dora Bejarano for the pictures from movie night! Take a look around on all of the classroom pages on the blog and you’ll see some really cool stuff happening!

Toy Drive for Homeless Animals…
As part of their PBL study of how ordinary people have changed the world, the 2nd graders in Room 2 have chosen to organize a toy drive for the animals that are brought to Animal Services. The students are looking to donate gently used or new animal toys or supplies to the shelter. If you want to participate, please send your donation to school with your child. The 2nd graders will be putting collection bags in each classroom. The last day to donate is Friday, March 2.

Monthly Pledges…
Reminder notices for February are being sent home this week to those who wanted to make a small monthly donation to the PTA. As with any other donation to the PTA, this money is being spent on P.E. for all grades, art, music, field trips, assemblies, etc. Please make sure to put your child’s name and room number on the envelope so that your account can be credited. As always, the PTA appreciates your support! If you have any questions, please contact Guy Taylor at guytaylor123@yahoo.com

Save the Date…
Our Rummage Sale’s rescheduled date has been confirmed and it will now be combined with a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5, 2012! Our PTA president, Aurora Gallardo needs help sorting and pricing the donated items that have been stored in the PTA room and selling booth space. Parents are also needed to help cook a Mexican meal for the festivities. — Carnes asada, frijoles (beans), arroz (rice), elote (corn) and nachos

If you can help, please contact Aurora at aurora.gallardo@star-vista.org

Have a great week!
