Volunteering…
In the coming months, the PTA will be trying different ways to communicate and organize their volunteer needs to all parents at Roosevelt. One way will be the use of online sign up sheets, so look for those in future emails about volunteer opportunities or look in the volunteering section on the parent blog. If every family committed to helping out just once during the year, the PTA could do amazing things for the students at Roosevelt!

Kinder Tour Night…
If you know anyone that has a child that will be entering Kindergarten next year, let them know that Roosevelt will be holding a Kindergarten Tour Night on January 18 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. For more information, contact rooseveltopenhouse@gmail.com or call the school office.

Casino Math Night…
Roosevelt will be having a Casino Math Night on January 18. It will be a night of fun games for the whole family that will help the students practice math skills. The teachers organizing the event need new or used Yahtzee games and new or used sets of dominoes. If you have games you’d like to donate, contact jtorres@rcsdk8.net

On the Parent Blog…
I’ve posted pictures of the food collected in December for Second Harvest by Ms. Washburn’s 2nd grade class. I’ve also posted a link to an article in Patch.com about Roosevelt’s presentation at the December 7 school board meeting. And in case you didn’t know, I also post the weekly email to the blog, so if you bookmark the blog page, you can access all of this information any time.

New Booster Seat Law…
As of January 1, 2012 all children under the age of 8 or under 4’9″ tall must be in a booster seat when riding in a car. If you are pulled over and your child does not meet either criteria, you will receive a $500 ticket and 1 point on your driving record. I’ve heard from several sources that there will not be any warnings or grace period for violating the new law.

Seussical the Musical…
The Redwood City Community Youth Theater, will be presenting a production of Seusical the Musical in March. They are looking for children age 6-14 to register to be a part of the production. Rehearsals begin this week at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center.

There is a FREE Open House on Monday, January 9 from 5-8pm at the Veteran’s Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, where kids can experience the joy of theatre games, learn about Seussical and families can meet the Directors! Go to (www.redwoodcity.org/adet.sdi?activity_id=24823).

Have a great week!
