Volunteering…
In the coming months, the PTA will be trying different ways to communicate and organize their volunteer needs to all parents at Roosevelt. One way will be the use of online sign up sheets, so look for those in future emails about volunteer opportunities or look in the volunteering section on the parent blog. If every family committed to helping out just once during the year, the PTA could do amazing things for the students at Roosevelt! So consider adding volunteering to your New Year’s resolutions this year.

Food Drive…
Mary Washburn’s 2nd grade class decided to organize a food drive at Roosevelt for Second Harvest Food Bank. The students have created flyers, posters and decorated bags to hold the donated food items. They will be collecting any food donations from each classroom every day until this Wednesday, December 14. Please make sure any food donations are nutritious and non-perishable. Also, check to make sure that any food is not past it’s expiration date.

On the Parent Blog…
I’ve posted pictures from Winterfest on the blog as well as pictures from Ms Vawter’s classroom showing the installation of their new SMART board. I also posted a video from Mrs. Parkhurst’s 3rd grade class of them performing vocabulary word skits. Thanks to Dora Bejarano for pictures from Winterfest and to Ms. Vawter for pictures from her classroom!

Monthly Pledges…
Reminder notices for December are being sent home this week to those who wanted to make a small monthly donation to the PTA. As with any other donation to the PTA, this money is being spent on P.E. for all grades, art, music, field trips, assemblies, etc. Please make sure to put your child’s name and room number on the envelope so that your account can be credited for the tax receipts to be sent out at the end of January. As always, the PTA appreciates your support!

Online Shopping to support Roosevelt…
If you’re planning on doing any online shopping for the holidays (and all year) there are two options that will support Roosevelt:

The first is Donate Portal at donateportal.com/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=viewlink&link_id=95&Itemid=68 Click on any of the available stores and shop. Donate Portal will take care of the rest.

The second option is the eScrip Online Mall at www.escrip.com and in the upper right hand corner under Shop Today! click on At the Online Mall and it will direct you to their directory of participating stores. Then just shop! (And while you’re on their website, don’t forget to register your Safeway Club card and/or your credit cards and debit cards and designate Roosevelt as your school).

Honey Bear Trees…
If you are buying a fresh Christmas tree this year or need a fresh wreath or garland, Honey Bear Trees in Redwood City on Woodside or San Carlos on El Camino is donating a percentage of your purchase back to our school. Tell them you are from Roosevelt School at checkout and they will make sure Roosevelt gets a portion of your sale.

Casino Math Night…
Roosevelt will be having a Casino Math Night on January 18. It will be a night of fun games for the whole family that will help the students practice math skills. The teachers organizing the event need new or used Yahtzee games and new or used sets of dominoes. If you have games you’d like to donate, contact jtorres@rcsdk8.net

Have Library Fines?…
During the month of December, bring non-perishable food to any of the Redwood City public libraries and any fines on your account will be waived. The food donations will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.

Have a great week!
