Prize donations needed…
If you would like to donate a prize for Bingo night, please drop it off at the school office. Last year we had some great prize baskets with movie tickets, iTunes gift cards, puzzles, games, art supplies and more! If you have any questions, contact Valerie Romero at romero.valeriagomez@gmail.com

Volunteers needed…
Volunteers are still needed on October 28 for the Spooktacular Bingo night to set-up, serve food, run the music for Pumpkin/Cake walk, sell Bingo tickets and more! This is a great way to meet other Roosevelt parents and have fun too! Please contact Kim Schiff at kbschiff@sbcglobal.net if you can help!

Raising a Reader…
Roosevelt was chosen to be awarded a grant by Target for the Raising a Reader program for our Kindergarten classes this year. Next year the grant will include Kindergarten and 1st grade. Each week, Kindergarteners will be given a book bag with five books to bring home and read during the week. The books were all delivered to our campus last week and volunteers are needed this Tuesday morning (Oct 25) for about an hour to help sort the books into the bags. Please contact Lisa Bamberger at lbamberger@rcsdk8.net if you would like to help.

PTA Pledges…
Reminders were sent home last week to all families that wanted to make a monthly contribution to the PTA. If you haven’t already don so, please remember to send in your money. Checks may be made payable to Roosevelt PTA or include your cash donation. Please also include your child’s name and room number so that it can be credited to your family. Thank you for your generosity!

Halloween at Roosevelt…
Roosevelt celebrates Halloween every year with a costume parade on the lower schoolyard at 8:30am. Most classes will also be having Halloween or Harvest parties that day, so please check with your child’s teacher to see if they need any help or food for the class. Also, please keep healthy snacks in mind for the kids – granola bars, fruit, yogurt, veggie sticks, breakfast burritos, etc.

Parking…
Parents are still using reserved parking spaces in the morning and at pickup. Please be aware that the parking spaces on Vera Avenue in front of the school have been reserved for Principal Girardi, office manager Gwen Thomas and Roosevelt staff. Parents visiting the school or dropping off or picking up their children should not park in these spaces. It is also illegal to park in the fire lanes or designated handicapped parking spaces – unless you have a handicapped license plate or placard. If you are parked illegally, your car may be ticketed or towed.

On the Parent Blog…
Thanks to Room 23’s teacher Emily Morgan for sending in photos from Room 23’s field trip to HEAL Farm with Ms Bacolini’s Room 24 Kindergarten class. I also have pictures from Tuesday’s Jiji Math Night and Literacy Night thanks to Ms Tsuchiyama!

Pictures needed…
I would love to get more pictures of what’s going on in all of the classrooms at Roosevelt. If you have pictures from your child’s classroom while volunteering, pictures from a field trip or class party, please let me know and I’ll post them on the blog. If you take a picture of your child’s artwork or any project, I’d be happy to post that as well.

Looking for a grant writer…
Our PTA is looking for anyone to volunteer as a grant writer to help secure additional fundraising money for our school. You don’t need any special training and you will be given all of the information you need to apply for grants. This is a job that can be done on your own time from home. Please contact our PTA president Aurora Gallardo at aurora.gallardo@star-vista.org or come to Tuesday night’s PTA meeting if you are interested or want more information.

New booster seat law!…
On Tuesday, October 4, 2011, Governor Brown signed into law Senate Bill 929 which takes effect on January 1, 2012. This law requires that children riding in any vehicle must be restrained in the back seat in a booster seat until their 8th birthday or until they reach a height of 4’9″ – whichever comes first. The current law states that children must be in a booster seat until they are 6 years old or 60lbs. After January 1, 2012, a violation of this law will be punishable by a fine of nearly $500.00 and one point on your driver’s record.

School directories…
The school directory was sent home to the families that filled out the Communication Form and turned it in at MAZE day or during the first weeks of school. Please note that the information in the directory is for parents and students to contact other Roosevelt students for homework help, playdates, etc. Please do not share the directory information with anyone outside Roosevelt or use the information for commercial purposes. Also, every effort was made to ensure that your information was copied accurately to the directory form but if there is an error with your information, please let me know and I’ll correct the master copy. trishreillytaylor@gmail.com

Have a great week!
