Kindergarten Parents…
Volunteers are needed for the Music for Minors program. You don’t have to play an instrument or have any music background. All training is provided. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are interested or want more information. You can also take a look at the Music for Minors website to learn more about the program at www.mfm.org

Principal’s Summer Reading Club…
On Friday, the students that participated in the Summer Reading Club got to have lunch with the principal. Ms. Girardi bought McDonald’s happy meals for the students and each received a bookmark and a certificate.

On the Parent Blog…
I’ve posted an article from CNN.com titled “What Teachers Really Want to Tell Parents” that I felt was an interesting read. Also, I’ll try to post pictures after the Tuesday dairy cow assemblies.

Art in Action…
Art in Action teachers (docents) are still needed for all grade levels. If we don’t have a volunteer for each class or grade level, your child’s class may not have Art in Action this year. All training is provided, but training classes are happening soon. If you don’t want to teach Art in Action but still want to be involved, you can also sign up to be a helper. Please contact your child’s teacher or the school’s Art in Action coordinator kazberg66@yahoo.com

Volunteering…
If you didn’t get a chance to sign up for anything at Back to School Night, please contact your child’s teacher for volunteer opportunities or come to a Site Council/ELAC meeting or PTA meeting. With all of the budget cuts, we need parent help more than ever!

RCEF fundraiser…
Support the RCEF’s Save Our School Music Campaign. Just shop at the Redwood City Whole Foods Market on Wednesday September 14, 2010. 5% of all sales, all day, go to keep instrumental music education for our kids. Last year’s event raised $5,200!

9 am to 11 am — Stop by the RCEF table by the cash registers and meet some our local education leaders over a free cup of coffee and pastry. Make a contribution to help us reach our $10,000 challenge grant – only $3,000 to go! Free Morning Makeovers for Mom and face painting and balloons for children.

4:30 pm to 6 pm Enjoy musical entertainment by the Sequoia High School band, featuring some of our talented RCSD alumni. Pick up a roasted chicken family meal deal to take home for dinner (until supplies run out). Free face painting and balloons for children.

The Save Our School Music Campaign supports the middle school Instrumental Music Program. The RCEF supports and advances education opportunities for the 9000+ students in the Redwood City School District. Learn more at: www.rcef.org/music

School t-shirts and sweatshirts…
For those that pre paid for school t-shirts or sweatshirts at MAZE day, the orders are in and are waiting to be picked up in the office. For those still wishing to purchase t-shirts or sweatshirts, all sizes are now available — Youth XS through Adult 3XL. Please stop by the office to pick up an order form. T-shirts are $10 and hoodies/sweatshirts are $20. Both are considered part of the school uniform.

Emergency kits…
If you haven’t done so already, don’t forget to turn in an emergency kit for your child.  It should contain some snacks that will be able to be stored until June – fruit roll ups, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc.  (Please include a spoon if one of the food items requires a spoon.)  You can also include tissues, a note, a picture, etc.  We hope that once again the kits will not be needed, but in case they are, please send in a kit so that child will have one.

District News…
As of October 1, 2011, the price of school lunches will increase to $2.25 and breakfast will cost $1.25. To see the full bulletin about the fee increase go to the district’s website www.rcsd.k12.ca.us

Have a great week!
