Make sure to mark your calendars for the following events at Roosevelt this week:

Monday – Friday…
This is the last week of the  Punctuality Contest! The class with the most students on time will win a pizza party! All students must be in line (or in the classroom for those classes that don’t line up) by 8:00am. 8:01am will be considered late for this contest. If students arrive on time, our teachers are able to start classroom instruction right away.

Thursday, March 31
The See’s Candies orders are due!   All money earned from this fundraiser will support P.E., Music for Minors and field trips. The class that sells the most will earn a Pizza Party.

Friday, April 1
Free Dress Friday!

Bingo Night! Don’t miss Bingo Night this Friday, April 1st. No, it’s not an April Fool’s joke! There will be lots of great prizes and fun for the whole family.  Please bring a plate of cookies to share. The cookie social starts at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-use room (coffee and hot cocoa will be provided by the Roosevelt PTA). You can bring your cookies to the event, or you can drop off cookies at the school office in the morning.  Then, get ready to bingo starting at 7 p.m.! Bingo cards will be on sale throughout the evening for 50 cents each. Great prizes available!

This week on the Parent Blog!
Last week I posted some great pictures and videos from Ms. Mallari’s 1st grade class from their PBL unit on community.  I will be posting an update from the Expansion Committee this week.  I also try to add links to articles or videos that are informative or inspiring, so be sure to check those out as well.  If you have pictures from the classroom or a school event that you would like to have posted, let me know. Also, if there’s ever anything you’d like to see on the blog, let me know and I’ll be happy to post it.

PTA Pledges…
Many of you chose the option to pledge money every month to pay for our P.E. program. Unfortunately, sending out reminder bills has proven difficult. The PTA still needs your donations to support our P.E. program. Please stop by the office or send your pledge money in an envelope to school with your child. Thank you for supporting the extra curricular programs here at Roosevelt!

PTA Nominations…
Do you want to get more involved?  Do you want to meet more parents and feel part of something?  The PTA needs you!  They are actively seeking volunteers for next year’s PTA.  If you’re interested, or want more information, please feel free to contact Aurora Gallardo or Bonnie Courney-Rodriguez or attend the April 26 PTA meeting.

Neighborhood News…
If you haven’t already done so, make sure to turn in your Speed Bump Survey Form. For the safety of our students, we would like to have speed bumps on Vera Avenue to force traffic to slow down. Please turn in your survey form ASAP. More survey forms are available in the school office.

District Budget News…
Next year’s school budget is still unknown at this time.  Right now, the district is hoping that the state legislature will put tax extensions on a June ballot.  Those taxes are due to expire in July.  If the tax extensions are put on the ballot and approved by the voters, there will be relatively no change to the district’s budget.  If the tax extensions don’t get put on the ballot or are not passed by voters, the district is looking at even more cuts to the budget which could mean even less school days next year.  The district is scheduling budget forums at different sites over the next few months to explain the situation. If you want more information about what is happening in Sacramento, be sure to check out www.educateourstate.org.

Have a great week!
