Make sure to mark your calendars for the following events at Roosevelt this week:

Looks like there’s rain in the forecast for this week. So, just a reminder that if it’s raining in the morning, students are to go to their classroom instead of the school yard.

Monday, February 14
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Tuesday, February 15
PTA Meeting at 6:00pm in the Faculty Room (Room 14). All are welcome to attend and Spanish translation is available. Childcare is provided in the Champions room.

Wednesday, February 16
Spring Picture Day!  This will be a free dress day for all students.

Friday, February 18
President Lincoln’s Birthday.  No school.

Benchmark Testing…
Grades 1 – 4 will be doing benchmark testing this week and 5th grade will test next week.

This week on the Parent Blog!
I’m hoping to post pictures and/or information about the 5th graders’ Outdoor Ed experience and I’ve been asking teachers to send me information about what’s going on in their classrooms.  As I receive information, I’ll be posting it.  www.rooseveltparents.com

Holidays ahead…
Monday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 22 are school holidays this year.

Punctuality contest…
A new contest will begin on Monday, February 28 through the end of March.  The class with the most students on time will win a pizza party!  All students must be in line (or in the classroom for those classes that don’t line up) by 8:00am.  8:01am will be considered late for this contest.  If students arrive on time, our teachers are able to start classroom instruction right away.  There are about 180 days of instruction in a school year and if a child is 1 minute late every day, that equals almost an hour and a half of lost instruction time.  Every minute counts!

Substitute Principal…
Ms. Girardi will be at a training February 21 – February 25.  There will be a substitute principal, Laura Hubbard, on the Roosevelt campus Wednesday, Feb 23 – Friday, Feb 25.

Save the Date…

Drug Awareness Night – February 28
An officer from the Sherrif’s department will be coming to Roosevelt for a presentation on drug awareness on Monday, February 28 from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Please note: because the officer will be bringing items associated with drugs, this is an adult only event, but childcare will be available in the Champions Room.

Expansion Committee at Board Meeting – March 9
The Expansion Committee will be presenting before the School Board on March 9 to ask that Roosevelt become a K-8 school.  All are welcome to attend and you may also speak before the board if you choose to do so.

Neighborhood News…
Schaberg Library will be closed on Mondays but open on Saturdays.  The Homework Club is no longer available, but children can sign up for the after school program offered by the Parks and Rec department.  Applications are available at the Parks and Rec office (Red Morton Community Center – 1120 Roosevelt Avenue)

Restaurant Fundraiser…
There is a restaurant fundraiser at Rubio’s in Menlo Park coming up.  Look for more information to come.  So far, the restaurant fundraisers have earned over $2,000 for our school!

Have a great week!
